Men's Golf Finishes as Team Runner-Up at Wabash Invitational

The Emory men's golf team mounted an impressive comeback over the final two rounds of play to tie for first at the Wabash Invitational but finished as the team runner-up after dropping the team playoff to Illinois Wesleyan. The 54-hole tournament (36 holes on Monday, 18 Tuesday) was played at the 6,670-yard, par-72 Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis, Indiana.

After shooting a combined eight-over par in the first round, the No. 5 ranked Eagles bounced back in a big way shooting a combined ten-under par over the last two rounds to finish with a score of 862 (296-281-285). The Eagles' second round score of 281 was the top round score for any team at the tournament. Emory finished the tournament tied for first in the 14-team field with No. 2 ranked Illinois Wesleyan matching the low score of 862 (284-292-286) to force a team playoff to determine a tournament winner. IWU emerged as the champion, beating out the Eagles by shooting two-under on four of the five holes while Emory shot even. No. 4 Carnegie Mellon claimed third place with a score of 870 (292-287-291) while No. 10 Wittenburg was fourth at 875 (294-284-297).

Senior Logan Ryan and sophomore Michael Rosenbloom led the way for the Eagles as they tied for the team lead, each shooting a 214 with round scores of 74-71-69 and 73-70-71, respectively. Ryan and Rosenbloom finished the tournament tied for sixth in the field of 70. Senior Max Schwarz's score of 215 (74-69-72) resulted in a tenth place finish while freshman Josh Qian score of 220 (76-71-73) left him in a tie for 15th place. Closing out scoring for Emory was senior Davis Hingtgen whose score of 229 (75-78-76) saw him tied for 35th at tournament's end. Carnegie Mellon's William Knauth and Denison's Marc Mitchell tied for the tournament lead with a score of 208 with Knauth winning the individual playoff.

The Eagles return to action next week on October 11-12, as they travel to Ligonier, Pennsylvania for the Tartan Invitational.
