Men's Golf Wins Piedmont Invitational

The Emory University men's golf B team wrapped up play at the Piedmont Invitational on Tuesday, winning the team title by six strokes. The two-day tournament was held at The Orchard Golf & Country Club in Clarkesville, Georgia.

The Eagles went into the final day with a 13 stroke advantage and held on to win the event, finishing with a team total of 607 after scoring 312 as a team on Tuesday. Hampden-Sydney and Methodist finished in a tie for second at 613 with host Piedmont placing fourth at 616.

Sophomore Nicholas Nautiyal, playing as an individual, had an outstanding second round as he carded a personal-low 67 to end the tournament as the highest Emory finish at second overall with his two-day total of 148. Piedmont's Matt Ariza was the individual medalist as he entered the clubhouse with a three-under 141.

Senior Grant Drogosch was the top finisher amongst the Emory golfers that counted for team scoring, tying for third at 149 following his second round score of 78. Junior Logan Lowery was another top-5 finisher for the Eagles as he notched back-to-back rounds of 75 for a two-day total of 150. Sophomore Prayaag Oruganti had the second best final round for the Eagles as he scored a 76 to end the competition in a tie for 18th with a score of 156.

Junior Tarun Hoskere and freshman Brian Hanson rounded out the Emory team scorers with Hoskere tying for 21st at 158 (75-83) and Hanson tying for 34th at 163 (74-89). Freshman Parker Shimp rounded out the Eagles at the Invitational, as he finished strong with a 79 on day two to give him a two-round total of 164 as he placed 38th.

Next up for the Eagles will be the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational from October 16-18 in Sandestin, Florida.
