Men’s Golf Finishes Fourth at Golfweek October Classic

The No. 1 Emory men's golf team finished play at the Golfweek October Classic on Tuesday, playing to a fourth-place finish at the Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida. The Eagles concluded their third and final round of play shooting a 289 (+5), bringing the three-round total to 863 (+11). The Eagles finished 20 strokes behind the winner, Methodist University who finished the event with a score of 843 (-9).

Despite finishing 20 strokes off the lead, the Eagles led the field on Par 4s, shooting 18 over par during the three days. The Eagles also shot one under par on Par 5s over the course of the tournament.

Leading the way on the final day for the Eagles was junior Michael Burry, shooting a 70 (-1) during the final day. The junior was exceptional on the front nine, knocking down four birdies and just one double bogey to shoot two under par. Burry went on to finish on the back nine shooting one over par. He finished the event tied for 20th with a three-day total of 216 (+3).

Senior Jackson Klutznick finished the tournament strong, shooting one under par on the front nine. The senior finished his day shooting a 72 (+1) to bring his cumulative score to 215 (+2). Klutznick finished his day tied for 15th on the leaderboard, 12 strokes off the leader.

Junior Tony Li continued to rack up pars on his final day, tallying 13 on the day. His third-round total came to 72 (+1). Li finished the tournament tied with Klutznick, totaling a 215 (+2) over three rounds.

Freshman Kevin Mu and junior Josh Qian concluded their final round shooting a 75 (+4) on Tuesday. Both Mu and Qian finished with a three-day total of 222 (+9) to put them tied for 53rd on the leaderboard.

The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow for the UAA Championships, still in Sandestin at the Raven Golf Club. The event will be match play scoring and feature two rounds, both being played tomorrow. Emory will be the No. 1 seed and take on No. 4 NYU in the first round. Should the Eagles win their first round, they will move on to play the winner of No. 2 Carnegie Mellon and No. 3 Rochester. The event will tee off at 7:00 AM CT.
