Men’s Golf Wins 21st UAA Championship in Program History, Crowned Co-Champions

The No. 1 ranked Emory men's golf team played in the UAA Championships on Wednesday, which consisted of two rounds of match play formatting. The rounds were played on the Par 71, 6621-yard course at the Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida. The Eagles reached the championship round to face the No. 5 ranked Carnegie Mellon and were named Co-Champions after play was suspended due to darkness.

This marks the 21st time the Eagles have claimed the UAA Men's Golf Title and the 8th under Head Coach John Sjoberg. This is Emory's 219th overall UAA Championship.

Having secured the No. 1 seed, the Eagles took on the No. 4 seeded NYU Violets in the semifinals on Wednesday morning. Emory secured a 3-2 win over the Violets, with senior Jackson Klutznick (4UP), freshman Kevin Mu (2&1), and junior Tony Li (3&2) winning their matches.

Tasked with taking down the No. 2 seeded Tartans, the Eagles received victories from Klutznick (4&3) and junior Josh Qian (1UP). With the Tartans taking the other two matches, Li's matchup became a must-win.

Li jockeyed for the lead in his match with Carnegie Mellon's Brian Xu, but 18 holes wasn't enough to crown a winner. The two were the final and deciding matchup and went to three playoff holes. However, they once again remained tied through 21 holes before play was suspended due to darkness.

Two Eagles received All-Tournament nods, with Li and Klutznick earning the honors. Klutznick was also named the tournament's MVP after winning both of his matches on the day.
