Men’s Golf Concludes Play at Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational; Teams Place Fourth and Fifth

The No. 1 Emory men's golf team concluded play in Rome, Georgia at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The tournament was played at the Stonebridge Golf Course. The Eagles fielded two squads in the tournament, finishing fourth and fifth on the overall team leaderboard. The Emory B-squad finished their second day shooting a 293 (+5) to bring their two-day total to 593 (+17) in fourth place. The C-squad ended their final round shooting a 302 (+14) to finish in fifth place with a 596 (+20).

The top overall finisher for the Eagles was junior Josh Qian, who had a very impressive final round for the B-squad, shooting a 66 (-6) to end his competition tied for second place with a 140 (-4). Qian racked up an impeccable seven birdies and logged just one bogey in his final round.

Also having a solid day for the B-squad was sophomore Brian Hanson. The sophomore finished his day shooting a 73 (+1) and picking up four birdies along the way. His two-day total came to 147 (+3) and tied for 10th overall.

Senior Michael Rosenbloom improved upon his first round's performance as well, improving his score from 80 (+8) on day one to 77 (+5) on day two, for a cumulative score of 157 (+13). Rosenbloom birdied his final two holes as well, helping him climb to tie for 63rd on the individual leaderboard.

Finishing up the scoring for the B-squad was junior Nicholas Nautiyal who shot a 77 (+5) to bring his two-round total to 150 (+6) and finish tied for 21st. Additionally, senior Logan Lowery finished his second round shooting a 78 (+6) to finish with a 157 (+13) tied for 63rd place.

The C-squad received a very strong day from newcomer Brady Lagendyk. In his first collegiate tournament, the freshman shot a 68 (-4) in the second and final round to bring his total to 141 (-3) for the tournament. Lagendyk finished 5th overall and just four strokes off the winner, making for an impressive debut.

Another freshman turned in a solid performance on Tuesday, with Dustin Miller handing in a 75 (+3). Miller stayed very consistent in his second round, recording 12 pars and two birdies. Miller's two-day total came to 151 (+7), placing him tied for 27th overall.

Also turning in a 151 (+7) to tie for 27th in the tournament was junior Prayaag Oruganti. Oruganti, who won the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational last season, shot a 77 (+5) on Tuesday. Outside of his quad-bogey on hole 11, a 415-yard Par 4, the junior was just one stroke over par in the rest of his final round.

Rounding out the Eagles' C-squad score was sophomore Parker Shimp who shot an 85 (+13) on Tuesday. This brought his two-round score to 167 (+23).

The Eagles will be back on the course this weekend as they head west to Boulder City, Nevada for the NCAA Fall National Preview. The three day event will tee off on Sunday, October 29th.
