Men's Golf Moves into Fifth Following NCAA Third Round

The Emory University men's golf team moved into fifth position in the team standings following a return to under par on the third day of the NCAA Championships in Boulder City, Nevada.

With the field cut down to 18 teams, the tournament shifted back to Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Eagles, which shot 272 as a team on Tuesday, were one of five programs to finish four-under or better on Thursday as the team posted a third round score of 284. Across the three days, Emory is at 858 (-6) and heads into the final round of the Championships trailing leader Carnegie Mellon by nine strokes.

Sophomore Brian Hanson put together the best individual round for the Eagles on Thursday as carded a 68, the third under 70 score for the Eagles this week. Hanson opened his round strong with an eagle and two birdies through four holes before posting a -4 on the front nine. He added one birdies on the final nine holes to go along with seven pars to end the afternoon at 68. Hanson improved his individual standing by 31 spots and enters Friday in a tie for 21st.

Junior Tony Li stayed consistent with his score of 71 thanks to four birdies and 11 pars to move to a tie for 28th while classmate Michael Burry registered a 72 during his third round, turning in two birdies and 14 pars, and stands in a tie for 48th overall.

Freshman Kevin Mu and senior Jackson Klutznick posted scorecards reading 73 and 74 at the end of round three. Mu will enter Friday tied for 77th while Klutznick is tied for sixth overall and four strokes behind the individual leader.

The Eagles will look to make up some ground on the final day of the 2024 NCAA DIII Championships with tee times starting at 8:50 AM PT.
