Junior Austin Claunch averaged
team highs in points (15.5 ppg) assists (8.5 apg), field goal
percentage (.625) and minutes (39.0 mpg) in helping the Eagles to
road wins at Washington University and the University of Chicago,
the first time in school history that an Eagles' team had won at
both schools in the same weekend, and just the fourth time in UAA
history that has taken place. In a 69-68 come-from-behind
triumph over Wash U., on Friday, the 5-foot-9 Claunch logged 39
minutes and was the team's second-high scorer with 13 points,
hitting four-of-eight from the field and all four of his free throw
opportunities. In addition, he doled out a game-high nine
assists and grabbed a team-high seven boards as the Eagles rallied
from three 14-point deficits in the second half in recording their
first win at Wash U. since 2004. In a 78-70 decision vs.
Chicago, Claunch came up with a team-high tying
18-points, converting six-of-eight from the floor, including
two-of-four from beyond the arc, and four-of-five from the charity
stripe. His basket with 4:28 remaining put Emory ahead for
good by a 67-66 margin. Claunch, who played a game-high 39
minutes, dished out a game-high eight assists and led all
players with three steals, his seventh outing of two or more thefts
this season. In the two games combined,
he sank 10-of-16 from the floor, three-of-seven from
three-point range and eight-of-nine from the charity stripe in
helping the squad boost its overall record to 11-3, the
second-best 14-game record in school history.
Through games played Jan. 16, he is No. 2 on the team and No.
7 among UAA players in scoring (14.4 ppg) and tops the conference
in assists (6.7 apg), free throw shooting (.881), steals (1.9 spg)
and assist/turnover ratio (2.4). He has scored in double
figures on 11 occasions
