Junior Austin Claunch turned in a pair of exceptional
performances over the weekend, averaging a team-high 17.5 points
and 10.0 assists per game in victories over Brandeis and NYU.
In Friday’s 85-70 win over the Judges of Brandeis, Claunch
was second high on the team with 16 points while dishing out eight
assists and coming up with two steals. In a 93-85 triumph
over NYU on Sunday, he logged all 40 minutes and shared for
team-high scoring honors with 19 points. He hit six-of-nine
from the floor, including all three of his three-point field goal
attempts, and converted all four of his free throw
opportunities. In addition, he tied the school game record
for the second time this season when he dished out 12 assists, his
fourth performance of double figures in that category, and paced
the team with six rebounds. In the two games combined, he
shot 52.4 percent from the floor (11-of-21), including 71.4 percent
(5-of-7) from beyond the arc, and 88.9 percent from the charity
stripe (8-of-9).
Through 20 games, he leads the team in scoring (16.0 ppg), assists
(7.3) and steals (1.9 spg). Claunch has chalked up a total of
a total of 17 double-figure scoring contests and his 145 assists
rank second on the school's seasonal chart, just six shy of tying
the record of 151 which he holds.
