Sophomore Jake Davis helped the No. 10-ranked
Eagles remain undefeated with a pair of strong performances.
Davis posted team highs in both points (22.5 ppg) and rebounds (8.5
rpg) as Emory came away with home wins over LaGrange and Covenant
College, running the team’s record to 7-0. In an 89-70
decision over the Panthers of LaGrange, the 6-foot-5 Davis led all
players with 26 points and a season-high 12 rebounds, his second
double-double of the year and fifth of his career. Davis sank
nine-of-18 from the floor and all seven of his free throw attempts
en route to his third outing of 20 or more points this
season. He followed that effort with a team-high 19 points,
while pulling down five rebounds in 23 minutes of action, in a
79-53 triumph over Covenant College. Davis, who scored 17
points in the opening stanza before seeing limited action in the
second stanza, converted nine-of-15 from the floor. In the
two games combined, he sank 54.5 percent (18-of-33) of his field
goal opportunities and is now connecting at a 61.6 percent clip
(61-of-99) through seven contests.
