Alex Greven Named UAA Men's Basketball Player Of The Week

Emory University junior Alex Greven (Winston-Salem, NC) has been selected by the University Athletic Association as Basketball Player of the Week following his performances on the road against Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve.  It marks the first time this season and second time in his career that he has been selected for the honor.

The 6-foot-3 Greven led all players with a season-high 27 points and tied for team honors with six boards in an 82-79 setback to Carnegie Mellon and followed that effort with a game-high 26 points and four rebounds in 26 minutes of action in a 105-71 win at Case Western.  Greven, who scored 15 second-half points against CMU, sank 11-of-16 from the field against the Tartans, including three-of-seven from three-point range, and both of his free throw attempts.  Against CWRU, he continued his hot-shooting ways, knocking down nine of his 15 floor attempts, including four-of-eight from beyond the arc.  His 26 points against Case was his second straight and fourth outing of 20 or more points this season.  In the two games combined, he averaged a team-high 26.5 points and 5.0 rebounds, connected on 64.5 percent (20-of-31) of his field goal opportunities and was successful on 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from downtown.  In addition, he went six-for-six from the charity stripe and has made 25-of-27 free throws over the last seven contests.

A double-figure scorer in 11 of the 19 games he has played in this year, Greven holds down the No. 3 spot on the team and ranks 11th among in overall scoring with a 12.8 per-game mark.  In conference affairs, he is tossing in 15.2 points per outing, good for ninth place on the conference ladder.

Emory, 19-5 overall and 8-5 in the UAA, winds up the regular-season portion of the schedule with a road game at the University of Rochester this Saturday (Feb. 25) starting at 4:00 p.m.
