Matthew Schner Selected to D3hoops.com Team of the Week for Third Time

Senior Matthew Schner was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week for a third time Tuesday afternoon as announced by the organization.

Schner is now tied for the national lead on the men's side along with Illinois Wesleyan's Matthew Leritz for the most Team of the Week selections this season. Emory, as a team, owns the second most selections amongst men's programs with four, trailing only the five honors from IWU. The Eagles are also one of just four programs in Division III, men's or women's, with three or more selections this year.

Schner was outstanding for the men's basketball team against Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon as Emory went 2-0 and clinched its third consecutive UAA championship. Schner scored a career-high 39 points in Friday's clincher over the Spartans, tying a program record with 16 made field goals, before recording 28 points in Sunday's overtime win over the Tartans including the game-winning shot in the closing seconds of OT. Schner made 51.9% of his shots in the two games while adding 9.5 rebounds per game, two assists, three steals and a block. He registered his sixth double-double of the year with his 28 points and 11 rebounds performance on Sunday.

For the season, Schner leads all UAA scorers with 22.9 points per game and is 14th amongst all Division III players. He ranks third in the conference with 8.4 rebounds per game and stands inside the top-5 statistically in the league in both assists (5th, 3.4 APG) and steals (3rd, 1.4 SPG).

The No. 15 ranked Eagles close out the regular season this Saturday against University of Rochester. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
