Men's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight; Takes Down LaGrange 86-68

The Emory University men's basketball team won its fifth straight game Wednesday night, defeating LaGrange College 86-68 in the final game before the holiday break.

The Eagles saw five players reach double figures in scoring with sophomore Cale Martens leading the way with 15 as he turned in his second double-double of the campaign, grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. Freshman Benjamin Pearce had 14 points with sophomore Albert Fallas sinking four triples for 12 points while doling out a career-high six assists.

Senior Mason Johnson had his second straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and junior Matteo Whelton knocked down five of his six attempts including three threes for 13 points off the bench.

Emory never trailed in the wire-to-wire victory, leading by as many as 11 points in the first half. The Panthers got as close as two points in the early stages of the second half at 55-53 with 12:14 to go. The Eagles countered however with a 13-0 run, highlighted by three Fallas' three-pointers, to move ahead by 15 at 68-53 and would lead by double digits for the remainder of the contest.

The Eagles shot nearly fifty percent in the win, going 33-for-67 from the floor and sank 11 threes - the sixth game this season Emory has made 10 or threes in a game - compared to LaGrange that shot 34.3-percent and 5-for-22 from distance.

Emory enters the holiday break at 7-1 overall and will return to court on December 29 and 30 with the Emory Holiday Classic. The Eagles will take on Connecticut College in the opener of the classic before hosting another in-state foe, Berry College, to round out the tournament.
