Head men’s basketball coach Jason Zimmerman picked up his first career win as the Eagles opened the home portion of the schedule with ca 76-72 come-from-behind decision over Washington and Lee.

After coming out on the short end of two games at Sewanee's Lon Varnell Classic to open the campaign, the Eagles were eager to get into the win column against a tough South Region foe.  Trailing by 67-61 margin with 5:04 left in the game, the Eagles knotted the contest at 68-68, the 14th tie of the contest, following a three-point field goal by sophomore Daniel Curtin with 2:50 on the clock, eventually staring a 7-0 run. Emory then took the lead for good with 2:26 remaining when Dan Smith knocked down a pair of free throws.

After the Generals crept to within two points with 12 seconds left, a pair of makes at the line by Curtin closed out the game’s scoring and sealed the win.  John Kresse and Smith paced four double-figure scorers with 14 points each, while Anthony Fernandez’s game-high 12 rebounds helped Emory to a 37-28 bulge in that category.  Aiding in the Eagles’ victory was sharp shooting from the stripe, knocking down 91.7 percent (22-of-24) of their attempts on the night including all 16 of their opportunities during the second stanza.
