(Nov. 17) Emory University's Jordan Edelman notched the game-winning penalty kick and assisted on the team's only goal during the fourth-ranked Eagles 1-1 NCAA Tournament second-round tie against North Carolina Wesleyan College.  Edelman was Emory's fifth competitor in the shootout, and broke a 2-2 tie with a perfectly-placed kick into the upper left corner of the net, just out of the reach of the Bishops' goalkeeper.  Earlier in the match, the senior defender assisted on the Eagles' only goal, heading a ball to Joey Howie inside the box, who converted it for the score.  Edelman, a co-captain of the Emory squad, has recorded a career-high six assists this season.  His performance helped the Eagles advance to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16.

(Nov. 17) Emory University goalkeeper Jonathan Laycock made two match-preserving saves during the shootout of the fourth-ranked Eagles' 1-1 tie with North Carolina Wesleyan College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  Laycock made diving stops on each of the Bishops' first two penalty kick attempts, eventually setting up a 3-2 Emory shootout victory.  The senior allowed one goal through the 110 minutes of the match, converting three saves, and lowering his season goals-against average to 0.37.  Laycock, a second-team all-UAA selection, has matched a school record with a 16-0-1 mark this season.

(Nov. 10) Emory University's Patrick McFarland assisted on both of his team's goals during the fourth-ranked Eagles' 4-2 loss to 20th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.).  McFarland picked up his first assist on a throw in from near the corner in the 31st minute.  His second helper came on a through ball in the 48th minute, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead at the time.  The senior leads all University Athletic Association players with 11 assists this season, and all players in conference play with four.  In addition, he moved into third-place in school history with 31 career assists.  McFarland helped the Eagles to their first conference championship since the 1998 season.

(Nov. 3) Emory University's Ben Schlang was a key contributor to the Eagles' pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) victories last weekend, helping the team clinch at least a share of the conference championship.  Schlang notched the game-winning goal during the Eagles' 2-0 win over Brandeis University on Friday, his ninth score of the season.  During the Eagles' 6-3 win over New York University, the freshman assisted on two goals, including the game-winner, his fourth and fifth assists of the season.  Schlang is second on the squad this season with nine goals and 23 points, and leads all UAA players with three assists and three game-winning goals in UAA matches.  The sixth-ranked Eagles, 16-0-0 (6-0-0 UAA) this season, clinched the UAA's automatic bid to the NCAA with the two wins during the weekend.

(Nov. 3) Emory University's Patrick Carver recorded six points during the sixth-ranked Eagles two University Athletic Association (UAA) wins last weekend.  On Friday, Carver assisted on the game-winning goal during the Eagles' 2-0 win over Brandeis University.  The senior forward scored two goals of his own, including the game-winning goal, and assisted on another during the Eagles 6-3 win over New York University on Sunday.  With his two goals on Sunday, Carver moved into a tie for second-place in school history with 50 career goals scored.  The team's co-captain leads all Emory scorers this season with 13 goals and six assists for 32 points.  Carver has led the Eagles to a school-record 16 wins this season, as Emory remained one of four undefeated and untied teams in the Nation.

(Nov. 3) Emory University goalkeeper Jonathan Laycock set a school record for single-season wins by a goalkeeper, with a pair of victories over University Athletic Association (UAA) opponents last weekend.  Laycock recorded his seventh complete-game shutout on Friday, making two saves during the Eagles' 2-0 victory over Brandeis University.  On Sunday, the senior made a season-high nine saves against New York University, allowing just one goal over his 79 minutes of play.  Laycock's 16 wins in goal this season match a school record, and he is on pace to set records in goals-against average and save percentage as well.  He began the week ranked third in Division III with a 0.34 goals-against average and sixth with a 0.896 save percentage.  Laycock has led the Eagles, 16-0-0 this season, to their first UAA Championship since the 1998 season.

(Oct. 27) Emory University's Patrick Carver scored a pair of goals during the sixth-ranked Eagles' 4-0 win over the University of the South (Tenn.).  Carver's two scores came over a 10-minute stretch in the first half, and helped to secure the victory for the Eagles.  The senior leads all Emory scorers with 11 goals and 26 points this season.  Carver also moved into sole possession of second-place in school history with 122 career points, and is fourth in Emory history with 48 career goals.  His performance this season has helped the Eagles to a perfect 14-0-0 record.

(Oct. 27) Emory University's Adam Waxman was a key defender in the sixth-ranked Eagles' shutout victory over the University of the South (Tenn.).  Waxman, making just his second start of the season, played all 90 minutes of the match, holding the Tigers to just eight shots, only two of which were on goal.  The sophomore helped the Eagles lower their team goals-against average to 0.28, the second lowest in Division III this season.  Waxman and the Eagles, 14-0-0 this season, remained one of four undefeated and untied teams in the Nation.

(Oct. 20) Emory University's Patrick McFarland assisted on the game-winning goals in each of the ninth-ranked Eagles' wins over a pair of ranked-UAA opponents.  On Friday, facing 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve University, McFarland assisted on Patrick Carver's goal with a cross into the box, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead they would hold for the rest of the match.  On Sunday, the senior forward assisted on the only goal of Emory's 1-0 win over the 18th-ranked University of Rochester, as his throw-in found the head of Marc Del Marmol, who converted the score.  McFarland is second on the squad with seven assists this season, helping the ninth-ranked Eagles to a 13-0-0 record this season.

(Oct. 20) Emory University's Erik Laney helped the Eagles' defense hold two ranked UAA opponents to just one goal last weekend.  Laney played all 180 minutes of the two matches, holding Emory's two opponents to just eight shots on goal.  The senior assisted on a goal and helped the Emory backline allow just eight shots to 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve University in a 2-1 Emory win.  Laney helped the Eagles' defense record its ninth shutout of the season against the 18th-ranked University of Rochester, allowing the Yellowjackets to take just six shots on goal.  The pair of victories lowered the team's goals-against average to 0.30 this season, the third-lowest in Division III at the beginning of the week.  Emory (13-0-0, 4-0-0 UAA) is one of four undefeated and untied teams remaining in Division III this season.

(Oct. 13) Emory University's Ben Schlang scored the game-winning goal in the ninth-ranked Eagles' 1-0 victory over 21st-ranked Washington University (Mo.).  Schang scored off a deflection in the 73rd minute, breaking a scoreless tie with what would be the only goal of the match.  The freshman has scored seven goals and a team-high four game-winning goals this season, including the deciding scores in each of the first two UAA matches of the season for the Eagles.  Emory, 11-0-0 (2-0-0 UAA) this season, is one of six remaining undefeated and untied teams in Division III.

(Oct. 13) Emory University co-captain Jordan Edelman led a defense that held Washington University (Mo.) without a shot on goal during the ninth-ranked Eagles 1-0 victory over the 21st-ranked Bears.  Edelman played all 90 minutes of the match, allowing the Bears to take just three total shots, none of which were on target, giving the Eagles their eighth shutout through 11 matches this season.  The senior helped the Eagles, who began the week ranked third in Division III in both save percentage and goals-against average, lower their team GAA to 0.27, as the squad has now outscored teams 39-3 and outshot teams 235-58 this season.  Emory, one of six remaining undefeated and untied teams in Division III, is 11-0-0 this season, including a 2-0-0 mark in UAA matches.

(Oct. 6) Emory University's Marc Del Marmol scored three goals over two games for the ninth-ranked Eagles last week.  Del Marmol scored the game-winning goal on a 20th-minute penalty kick against Oglethorpe University (Ga.), helping the Eagles to a 2-0 win over the Stormy Petrels.  Against the University of Chicago (Ill.), the senior midfielder assisted on a game-tying goal, and scored two of his own in the second half to secure a 5-1 Emory win.  Del Marmol has recorded five goals and one assist this season, all of which have come over his last four games played.  He has helped the Eagles to a perfect 10-0-0 record this season.

(Oct. 6) Emory University defender Andre Jakubowski helped the ninth-ranked Eagles to a pair of wins over two games last week.  Jakubowski played all 90 minutes of the Eagles' 2-0 victory over Oglethorpe University (Ga.), holding the Stormy Petrels to just five shots, three of which were on goal.  Against the University of Chicago (Ill.), the senior played over 70 minutes, allowing the Maroons to score one goal on three shots, en route to a 5-1 Emory win.  During Jakubowski's 160:51 minutes played during the two games, the Eagles recorded a 0.56 goals against average, and allowed opponents eight shots, just five of which were on goal.  The defender has led an Emory squad that began the week with the second-lowest goals against average in the Nation (0.29), and at 10-0-0 this season, is one of seven undefeated teams left in Division III.

(Sep. 29)  Emory University's Marc Del Marmol recorded the first two-goal game of his career, leading the Eagles to a victory over Piedmont College (Ga.).  Del Marmol scored the opening goal of the game, giving the Eagles a lead in the 17th-minute of the match.  He would later add an insurance goal in the 61st minute of the match, en route to a 4-0 Emory win.  The multiple-goal game for Del Marmol was not only the first two-goal game of his career, but also marks the first time in his career that the senior midfielder has scored more than one goal in a season.  Del Marmol also played 79:35 minutes, including the entire second half, of the Eagles 1-0 victory over Maryville College (Tenn.), helping the ninth-ranked Eagles improve to 8-0-0 this season.

(Sep. 29) Emory University defender Erik Laney led the Eagles to a pair of shutout victories last week.  Laney played over 68 minutes during the Eagles' 4-0 victory over Piedmont College (Ga.), allowing the Lions to take just two shots during the match.  During Emory's 1-0 victory over Maryville College (Ga.), the senior played all 90 minutes, holding the Scots to five shots, only two of which were on goal.  Laney has been an integral part of an Emory defense that has allowed just two goals through eight games this season for a 0.24 team goals against average this season.  The Eagles, ranked ninth in the Nation, are 8-0-0 this season.

(Sep. 22) Emory University senior Patrick Carver notched the game-winning goal during the ninth-ranked Eagles' 3-1 victory over Greensboro College (N.C.).  Carver scored off a free kick in the 72nd-minute, bending a ball into the upper-far corner of the net, just out of the reach of the opposing goalkeeper, to give the Eagles the lead in the match.  The goal was the team-leading seventh of the year for the forward, who now has a team-best 16 points this season.  Carver, the 2007 UAA Player of the Year, is now tied for fourth in school history with 44 career goals.  He has led the Eagles to a perfect 6-0-0 record in 2008.

Defense
(Sep. 22) Emory University's Jordan Edelman paced an Emory defense that held Greensboro College (N.C.) to one goal in the ninth-ranked Eagles' 3-1 victory over the Pride.  Edelman played all 90 minutes of the Emory victory, keeping the Pride scoreless through the final 77 minutes of the match, while holding Greensboro to just six shots (four on goal).  The senior also contributed on offense, assisting on both the game-tying goal in the 18th-minute, and a late insurance goal in the 85th-minute.  Edelman has captained a defense that has held opponents to just two goals on 21 shots on goal through six games this season.  Emory improved to 6-0-0 on the season with the win.

(Sep. 15) Emory University's Christopher Howie scored his first goal as an Eagle, helping the squad to a 3-0 victory over Covenant College (Ga.). Howie's goal came in the 11th-minute of the match, giving the Eagles a lead they would hold for the rest of the match. The sophomore midfielder became the fifth different Eagle this season to record a game-winning goal for the squad. Howie now has one goal and three assists this season for five points on the campaign. The Eagles, ranked ninth in the Nation, are 5-0-0 this season.

Defense
(Sep. 15) Emory University's Jacob Roche played over 87 minutes in the backfield and scored a goal during the Eagles' 3-0 shutout win over Covenant College (Ga.). Roche helped the Emory defense holds the Scots to just four shots on the day, only two of which were on goal. The senior also secured the Eagles' victory with a penalty kick goal in the 87th minute, his first career goal, giving Emory a 3-0 lead. Roche has been part of an Emory defense that has helped the squad outscore the opposition 23-1, and outshoot opponents 106-33 through five games this season. Emory, ranked ninth in the Nation, is 5-0-0 this season.

(Sep. 8) Emory University's Ben Schlang scored the 20th ‘golden goal' in school history on Friday, helping the Eagles to a 2-1, double-overtime victory over Virginia Wesleyan College.  Schlang scored the goal in the 109th minute of the match, heading a ball into the goal off a free kick.  The ‘golden goal' was the first by an Emory freshman since former Eagle Matthew Levine notched one during the 2000 season.  Schlang also assisted on a goal during the Eagles' 2-0 victory over the 25th-ranked University of Mary Washington on Sunday.  The forward is second on the squad this season with four goals, three assists, and 11 points this season.  His performance during the year has helped the ninth-ranked Eagles to a 4-0-0 record.

(Sep. 8) Emory University goalkeeper Jonathan Laycock led the Eagles defense to two wins in as many games last weekend.  During a 2-1 double-overtime win, Laycock played all 108:12 in goal, making five saves, including two in a five-second span during the second-overtime period to preserve the game for Emory.  On Sunday, the senior recorded his first complete-game shutout of the season, converting a season-best six saves, en route to a 2-0 Eagles' victory.  Laycock is now 4-0-0 this season with a 0.27 goals against average, and has 13 saves through the first four games of the campaign.  The Eagles, 4-0-0 on the campaign, are ranked ninth in the nation.

(Sept. 4) Emory University's Patrick Carver scored five goals during the squad's two games during the Sonny Carter Invitational, en route to being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.  The 2007 all-American and UAA Most Valuable Player opened the tournament with a ‘hat-trick' against Guilford College (N.C.), including the eventual game-winning goal, helping the Eagles to an 8-0 victory.  Against Methodist University (N.C.), Carver scored two more goals and added an assist in another 8-0 Emory win.  The senior became just the seventh player in school history to break the 100-point mark for his career, and his 107 career points and 42 career goals rank him fifth in Emory history.  Carver helped the Eagles, ranked 13th in the nation, to a 2-0-0 start to the season.

(Sept. 4) Emory University's Jordan Edelman anchored an Emory defense that held its two opponents scoreless during 180 minutes of play at the Sonny Carter Invitational.  During an 8-0 victory over Guilford College (N.C.), Edelman and the Emory backfield held the Quakers to just two shots, only one of which was on goal. During the following Emory match against Methodist University (N.C.), the senior co-captain helped the Eagles outshoot their opponent 25-5, including just two shots on goal, in an 8-0 Emory win.  Edelman earned a spot on the all-Tournament team for his play during the weekend, as the 13th-ranked Eagles opened their season with a 2-0-0 record.
