Eagles Stay Perfect with 3-1 Win at Averett

Emory University junior Dylan Price continued his torrid start to the 2013 campaign, scoring the game-winning goal and assisting on another to lift the Eagles to a 3-1 win at Averett University on Friday afternoon.

With the win, Emory remained undefeated for the season, improving to 3-0-0.  Averett dropped to 0-2-1 with the loss.

The Eagles took the early lead in the game, striking in the 23rd minute on the first goal of the season from junior Michael Rheaume.  The play was set up by a pass across the box from Price to Rheaume, who converted a shot for the goal.

Ten minutes later, the Cougars would even the match, taking advantage of an well-positioned indirect kick.  Setup just outside Emory's box following a foul, Christopher Jordan played the ball to Martin Erenstedt, who was able to score his first goal of the season to knot the score at a goal apiece.

The score would remain tied until Price broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute with his fourth goal in three games this season, heading a throw in from junior Jeffrey Cochran with a redirect from freshman Jason Andrejchak.  Six minutes later, Andrejchak scored his first collegiate goal, heading in a passes from freshman Darion Morgan and freshman Eli Curtin, to give the Eagles a two-goal lead.  It was the team-leading third assist of the year for Morgan, and the first for Curtin.

The scoring for the day was capped off in the 85th minute, when an own goal boosted the Eagles' advantage to 4-1.

Price now has four goals and an assist through the first three games of the season, good for nine points on the year.  He now has 23 career goals, moving him into a tie for 19th-place in school history with Charles Strauss (1976-78).  It also marked his second-straight contest with a game-winning goal, and the 10th game-winning goal of his career, the third highest total in school history.

Emory outshot Guilford 20-6 in the game, including a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal and an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.  Sophomore Abe Hannigan earned the win in goal, making two saves to improve to 3-0-0 for the season.

The Eagles will continue their weekend road trip on Sunday, when the squad travels to Guilford College to face the Quakers at 1:00 PM.
