NC Wesleyan Upends Emory Men's Soccer, 2-1

The Emory University Men's Soccer team saw its two-game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon as the Eagles fell to North Carolina Wesleyan by a score of 2-1 in Rocky Mount, N.C. With the defeat, Emory dropped to 2-2 on the season while the Battling Bishops improved to 2-3.

Freshman Jun Tsuru broke a scoreless tie in the 51st minute as he scored his second goal of the season. Junior Jason McCartney had nice cross which Tsuru finished into the right corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage.

NC Wesleyan evened the score at 1-1 in the 69th minute as Olafur Einarsson put one into the top left corner off the feed from Ryan Holliday. The Battling Bishops found the back of the net 13 minutes late in the 82nd minute as Caetano Viegas had his ball deflect off junior Graham LaBran-Boyd and into the goal to give NC Wesleyan a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish.

LaBran-Boyd made one stop on the afternoon as he was handed his first loss of the season. Alez Magner made five stops to earn the victory for the Battling Bishops.

NC Wesleyan outshot the Eagles by a slim 12-10 margin while Emory held a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.

The Eagles are back on the pitch next weekend with back-to-back contests. First, the Blue and Gold will venture to Rome, GA to face Berry College on Friday evening before returning to campus to host Oglethorpe on Saturday night in the first of four straight at the Woodruff PE Center. Both games next weekend are scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
