The Emory University Men's Soccer team won its second consecutive contest as the Eagles used three answered goals to upend crosstown rival Oglethorpe University 3-2 on Saturday night at the Woodruff PE Center. With the victory, Emory moved to 4-2 on the season while the Stormy Petrels remained winless at 0-4-2.

Both teams came out of the gate ready to go combining for two goals in the opening 3:38 of action. Gustavo Martinez led things off for Oglethorpe as he redirected a header into the upper corner of the net following a long pass from keeper Luke Whelan to put the Stormy Petrels in front by one at the 2:24 mark. Emory answered 1:14 minutes later as sophomore Evan Floersch connected from close range, poking in the loose ball for his first career tally.

Later in the first half, senior Scott Haley put the Eagles in front with his first goal of the season as he scored on a free kick from right outside the 18. Emory extended its lead in the 53rd minute as sophomore Moustafa Khattab also scored on a free kick, placing his shot over Whelan's leaping attempt and into the far corner of the net to give the Eagles a 3-1 advantage.

The Stormy Petrels cut the deficit to one with just under seven minutes remaining as Gabe Alvarez beat junior Jake Deuel on a penalty kick after he was taken down inside the box. The Eagles defense stood tall for last 6:54 minutes of regulation, not allowing Oglethorpe to get off a shot for the remainder of the contest.

Deuel picked up his second win in as many night, making four saves in the victory to improve to 2-0 on the year. Whelan earned the loss for OU, making three stops.

Emory continues its current four-game homestand on Wednesday night as the Eagles host Sewanee at the Woodruff PE Center. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
