Men's Soccer Falls to #3 Chicago, 2-0, in UAA Opener

The Emory University Men's Soccer team saw its three game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as the Eagles fell to third-ranked University of Chicago 2-0 in the University Athletic Association opener. With the defeat, Emory drops to 5-3 overall while the Maroons remained unbeaten on the year, improving to 11-0-0.

With limited scoring chances in the opening minutes of the contest, Chicago broke the scoreless tie in the 20th minute on Brenton-Neal Desai's fourth goal of the season. Desai stole a Gabriel Vasconcelos pass before taking two steps and ripping a shot just outside the 18 into the upper right hand corner to give the Maroons a 1-0 edge.

Junior Jason McCartney had a chance to tie the score at one in the 50th minute as his header looked like it was destined to find the back of the net but Chicago's Daniel Weis made a last ditch effort and was able to save the ball from crossing the goaline.

With just under eight minutes remaining, junior Christian Meyer had an opportunity to knock in the loose ball from right in front but UC's Hill Bonin made a leaping dive at it to keep it 1-0 in favor of the Maroons. Emory had another opportunity with 4:50 left to go in regulation as Vasconcelos fired a shot from 30 yards out on target but Bonin made a great two-handed diving stop to preserve the lead for Chicago.

Dayo Adeosun provided the final margin in the contest as he maneuvered around two defenders before beating junior Jake Deuel one-on-one from inside the six to make it 2-0 with 30 seconds left in the game.

Emory will be back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to Birmingham-Southern for a non-conference matchup starting at 7:00 pm eastern time.
