Emory Men's Soccer Begins UAA Slate against Chicago

The Emory University men's soccer team returns to University Athletic Association competition, welcoming the University of Chicago to Atlanta Saturday afternoon in the conference opener for both squads. Play from the Woodruff PE Center is scheduled to get underway following the conclusion of the women's contest at approximately 1:30 PM.

The Eagles are flying high after closing out the month of September with three consecutive 1-0 victories including an overtime win over 15th-ranked Christopher Newport University this past Sunday in Charlotte, NC. Emory, now 4-1-2 overall, are inside the top-25 of both national polls this week as the team enters the weekend 18th in D3Soccer.com and 23rd in the United Soccer Coaches poll. The Eagles boast the top defense in the country according to the Massey Ratings after allowing just three games total through the first seven games of the season. Offensively, six different Eagles have scored to account for all six markers on the year led by junior Alejandro Gomez (1G, 1A).

After dropping two straight, Chicago (RV in United Soccer Coaches, 18th in D3Soccer.com) is coming off a big win as they venture down to the South, knocking off #3 Calvin, 2-0, Wednesday night at home to improve to 6-2-1 on the season. The Maroons are right behind Emory for the nation's top backline, owning the second-ranked defense according Massey, surrendering five goals in nine contests. Graduate student Ben Brandt and sophomore Ryan Yetishefsky have combined for six of the team's 12 goals, scoring three goals each.

Saturday represents the 35th all-time meeting in the series with the Eagles leading 21-10-3. Despite trailing in the series, the Maroons have had the edge in recent memory, going 2-0-1 in the last three meetings including a 5-0 victory when the teams last met in October of 2019.
