Men's Soccer Drops First Match of Blue Jay Invitational Against Mary Washington

The Emory University men's soccer team dropped the first match of the Johns Hopkins' Blue Jay Invitational to Mary Washington Saturday afternoon. The No. 22 ranked Eagles fell 4-1 to the Mary Washington Eagles in what was their first loss of the season to bring their record to 1-1-2.

Emory fell into an early hole, giving up two goals in the first half as a result of MWU's 11 shots on goal. Senior Alejandro Gomez was able to notch the Eagles lone goal of the match in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick that gave the Eagles a chance to battle their way back into the match. Emory was unable to capitalize on the momentum they had generated as they allowed two more goals to Mary Washington in the final stages before the completion of the match.

Senior Peter Wagner recorded seven saves in his 87 minutes in goal while junior Alex Mills matched the team lead in shots on goal with two during the match.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, September 14th when they travel up the road to Tennessee where they are set to face off against Sewanee at 7:30 PM.
