Men's Soccer Scores Late to Tie #13 Washington & Lee, 2-2

The Emory University men's soccer team rounded out its weekend trip to Lexington, VA with a 2-2 tie with No. 13 ranked Washington & Lee University on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles salvaged the draw with a late-minute goal to push its overall record to 1-3-4 while the tie snapped W&L's four-game winning streak, moving the Generals to 4-1-1.

Trailing 2-1 in the final stages of the contest senior Alejandro Gomez came through in the clutch, notching his team-leading fourth goal in the 86th minute. Following a takedown at the top of 18, the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick where Gomez promptly stepped up with the conversion. It was Gomez's third successful penalty kick attempt of the season.

The game led off with both sides trading opening salvos within the first 16 minutes of the match. Senior Cole Hendricks opened the scoring with his second career, finding the back of the net at the 7:27 mark with classmate Trey Rielly collecting the assist on the play. The Generals answered not too long after, tying the score at 1-1 at 15:30 on a Samuel Bass goal.

The score remained deadlocked at one until W&L's Weyimi Agbeyegbe broke the tie in the 81st minute, scoring off the double assist from Bass and John Peterson.

Washington & Lee outpaced the Eagles in the shots department, 21-5, and led 10-2 in shots on goal. Senior Peter Wagner made a career-high eight saves in the draw.

The Eagles return to action next Sunday, September 25th at 3:00 PM with a meeting with Rhodes College at the WoodPEC in Atlanta.
