The No. 6 ranked Emory University men's soccer team saw its nine-match unbeaten streak halted Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 24 University of Chicago 1-0 in Chicago, Illinois.
The Eagles were handed their first defeat since September 17, and just the second loss this season, as the Maroons earned the home victory. Emory will head into the regular season finale now standing at 11-2-3 overall and 5-1 in UAA action while UChicago improved to 8-2-5 and 3-1-2 in conference play with one game remaining.
The lone goal of the afternoon came in the 37th minute following a string of heavy offensive pressure by the Maroons. A free kick from 20 yards out by Jack Leuker was fired into the top right corner, giving UC all the support they needed in the contest.
The Eagles mustered five shots on the afternoon, including three in the second half. Freshman Lorenzo Avalos had possibly Emory's best chance of the contest, putting a shot on frame after cutting around a defender however the keeper was there for the stop.
Emory will conclude the regular season next Saturday, November 4th with a road matchup at the University of Rochester at 1:30 PM.
