Emory University finished second at the NCAA Division III national championships, tying the best finish in school history. It was the fifth consecutive year that Emory placed in the top three at the national championships.
Emory scored 446 points at the NCAA meet, the highest runner-up score since 1990 and the third highest since the Division III championships began in 1975.
A school-record 14 swimmers earned All-America honors in 11 different individual events and all five relay events. The Eagles brought home 36 All-America certificates (16 individual, 20 relay), the most in school history. Fifteen of a possible 19 school records were broken in swimming events.
Junior Chris Halstead became the second national champion in school history by winning the 200-yard backstroke.

David Black
Black, a junior, earned two All-America certificates by swimming
the breaststroke legs on the 200- and 400-yard medley relays.
Black's times in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events at the
Miami (OH) Invitational were the fastest on the team this season.
Black is the fourth-fastest individual in school history in both
breaststroke events. He finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke
at the conference championships. Black was seventh on the team out
of 32 competitors in points scored in dual and championship meets.
Brandon Burke
Burke, a sophomore, earned his third career All-America certificate
by finishing eighth in the 200-yard backstroke at the national
championships. He earned All-America honorable mention recognition
in the 400-yard individual medley. His time of 4:01.49 in the 400
IM broke the school record. Burke was eighth on the team out of 32
competitors in points scored in dual and championship meets. He was
voted the team's Most Competitive Performer.
Andrew Callam
Freshman Andrew Callam earned All-America honors as a member of the
400-yard freestyle relay, which finished third at the national
championships. Callam also received All-America honorable mention
honors by finishing 16th in the 100-yard freestyle. His time of
46.69 seconds in the 100 free makes him the fourth-fastest
individual in that event in school history. Callam swam a leg on
the conference champion 200-yard freestyle relay.
Christian Groth
Groth, a junior, received All-America recognition for the second
consecutive year as a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay at the
national championships. Groth recorded the third-fastest time on
the team this season in the 200-yard freestyle. Groth is the
eighth-fastest individual in that event in school history.
Justin Hake
Hake, a sophomore, earned four All-America citations for the second
year in a row. He placed third in the 100-yard butterfly at the
national championships, the highest finish in that event in school
history. His time of 48.54 seconds in the 100 fly is the sixth
fastest ever swum in an NCAA championship finals. Hake also swam
legs on three All-America relays: 200- and 400-yard medley and
200-yard free. He earned All-America honorable mention with his
ninth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly. Hake broke the school
record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.54 seconds. He
had the third-highest season points total on the team out of 32
competitors.
Chris Halstead
Junior Chris Halstead earned the title of national champion with a
first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke at the NCAA Division
III national championships. Halstead's time of 1:48.13 broke the
school record in the event that was previously held by Halstead
(1:49.45). The time of 1:48.13 is the third-fastest winning time in
NCAA Division III history in the event. He placed fifth in the
200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:51.43, which broke a
school record. Halstead broke a third school record in the 100-yard
backstroke with a fifth-place finish and a time of 50.71. He swam
the leadoff leg of the 400-yard medley relay that finished second
(3:22.06) and broke a school record. He finished fourth as part of
the 200-yard medley relay team (1:33.00). Halstead earned five
All-America honors, tying the school record for the most in a
season. He now holds a total of eight career All-America honors. He
scored 48 points at the NCAA meet, a school record by any Eagle.
Halstead was voted the team's Most Valuable Performer.
Ted Hamilton
Freshman Ted Hamilton earned All-America honors by placing third in
the 1650-yard freestyle at the national championships. He won the
conference championship in the same event. Hamilton is the
second-fastest individual in the 1650 in school history. He
received All-America honorable mention recognition in the 500-yard
freestyle. Hamilton received Rookie of the Year awards from the
conference and his team.
Richard Kinnett
Senior Richard Kinnett became the third individual in school
history to earn All-America honors in three individual events in
one year. Kinnett placed second in the 1650-yard freestyle at the
national championships, the fourth consecutive year that he has
finished in the top-eight in that event. He is one of three
individuals in school history to earn All-America honors in the
same event for four years. Kinnett also finished fifth in the
500-yard free and eighth in the 400-yard individual medley. Kinnett
broke school records in the 1000- and 1650-yard freestyle events.
He was sixth on the team out of 32 competitors in points scored in
dual and championship meets.
Michael Klein
Klein was the conference runner-up in both diving events, finishing
behind teammate John Sutter in both. His conference score on the
three-meter board, 476.90, was the seventh best in school history.
He also recorded the ninth-best score in school history on the
one-meter board with a 462.55 at the University Athletic
Association championships. Klein qualified for the NCAA national
championship meet for the second consecutive year. He was accorded
honorable mention All-America status after placing 11th on the
three-meter board at the NCAA meet.
Ryan Kolynych
Sophomore Ryan Kolynych was chosen the team's Most Improved
Performer. He set personal best times in seven individual events.
Kolynych qualified for the NCAA championships for the first time,
competing in the 200 breaststroke, 200 individual medley and 400
individual medley. He received all-conference honors after
finishing third in the 200 individual medley at the conference
championships.
Jimmy McGee
Junior Jimmy McGee earned two All-America citations, the first of
his career, as a member of the second-place 200-yard freestyle
relay and the third-place 400-yard freestyle relay. He finished
seventh in the 100-yard freestyle at the conference championships.
He is the sixth-fastest individual in school history in the 100
free. McGee was 12th on the team out of 32 competitors in points
scored in dual and championship meets.
Tim Newton
Freshman Tim Newton earned All-America certificates at the national
championships, in the 500-yard freestyle and as a member of the
800-yard freestyle relay. Newton placed fourth in the nation in the
500 free with a time of 4:34.24. His time was the second fastest on
the team this season and made him the fourth-fastest individual in
that event in school history. Newton also earned All-America
honorable mention recognition by placing 11th in the 400-yard
individual medley.
Christopher Press
Junior Christopher Press tied the school record for most
All-America citations earned in a season with five: two in
individual events and three in relays. Press placed eighth in both
the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly at the national
championships. He also swam legs on the All-America 200 and 400
free relays, and 200 medley relay. Press finished the season as the
team leader with 339 points scored in dual and championship meets.
He broke the school record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of
21 seconds flat.
Andrew Schapiro
Junior Andrew Schapiro earned his second career All-America
certificate by placing fifth in the nation in the 200-yard
butterfly at the national championships. It was the third
consecutive year that he has finished in the top-16 in the 200 fly.
He is the third-fastest individual in that event in school history
and his time was the fastest time on the team this season. Schapiro
also received All-America honorable mention recognition in the
100-yard butterfly.
Brian Seymour
In his senior season Seymour finished third in the 100-yard
freestyle at the national championships. He also swam a leg on the
200-, 400-, and 800-yard freestyle relays and the 400-yard medley
relay, helping him accumulate a school record-tying five
All-America citations in one season. Seymour will graduate with 12
career All-America citations, the second most in school history.
Seymour earned All-America honorable mention by finishing ninth in
the 200-yard free. He swam the team's fastest times of the season
in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. Seymour placed fourth on
the team out of 32 competitors in points scored in dual and
championship meets.
John Sutter
Sutter was named the conference Diver of the Year after winning
both diving events at the University Athletic Association
championships. He was the second Emory diver ever to sweep both
boards at the conference meet. Sutter's winning score at the UAAs
on the one-meter board, 466.90, was the seventh-best score in
school history for any meet. He placed ninth on the one-meter board
at the NCAA national championships to attain honorable mention
All-America status.
Dan Weissman
Junior Dan Weissman earned All-America honors at the national
championships by finishing sixth in the 1650-yard freestyle for the
second year in a row. His time of 15:53.48 makes him the
fourth-fastest individual in that event in school history. Weissman
also earned All-America citations with an eighth-place finish in
the 500-yard free and as a member of the 800-yard medley relay. He
earned All-America honorable mention honors in the 200-yard
backstroke. Weissman was fifth on the team out of 32 competitors in
points scored in dual and championship meets.
