Athletes of the Week

(Feb. 20) Alex Emerson turned in a NCAA q-time this past weekend at the Emory Invitational. Emerson, a member of the 2006 UAA champions, qualified in the 1650 with a time of 16:12.54.


(Feb. 13) Freshman Randall Scarborough was named University Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Year while helping the Emory Eagles to their eighth straight UAA team championship.  For the season, Scarborough has an "A" cut as a member of the 800 freestyle relay team.  He also has four "B" cuts to his credit in the 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle and the 1650 freestyle.  At the UAA Championships this past weekend, he was a member of the winning 400 yard medley relay team, while also winning the 500 yard freestyle and 800 yard freestyle relay.


(Jan. 30) Senior Justin Hake turned in a solid effort over the weekend, winning one individual race and helping claim first in a team event.  Hake took first-place honors in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 50.74.  He was a member of the 200 yard freestyle relay that finished first in a time of 1:26.44.  He also took fifth place in the 50 yard freestyle at 21.94.


(Jan. 23) Freshman Keith Diggs claimed top honors in two events this past weekend, competing against Transylvania and Wittenberg.  Diggs won the 1650 yard freestyle in a time of 16:30.08, while also winning the men's 100 yard backstroke at 53.09


(Dec. 5) Junior Tim Newton finished first in the 500 yard freestyle to highlight his weekend at the Miami Invitational.  Newton took first place after finishing the race in a time of 4:30.03.  He also finished second in the 400 yard individual medley in a time of 4:01.70.  As a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay, the team finished sixth in a time of 3:06.58.


(Nov. 7) Sophomore Nick Lake won two events and made two NCAA B cut times at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.  He won the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:15.96.  He finished second in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:09.21.  Both of these times make the NCAA B cut for the national championships.  Lake also finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:42.72.


(Oct. 31) Sophomore Nick Lake won two individual events for Emory in a dual meet against the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.  He won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:49.57 and also placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:49.84.  Lake also swam a leg on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished second with a time of 3:18.47.
