(May 4) JUSTIN HAKE AWARDED AN NCAA POST GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Justin Hake became the 11th member of the men's swimming and diving program to be awarded a $7,500 Post Graduate Scholarship by the NCAA.

Justin is the 2006 NCAA national champion in the 100 butterfly. Justin defeated the 2006 Swimmer of the Year from Kenyon College for the title. He has two national championships to his credit and 17 All-America honors, earning four honors this past season. His 17 All-America honors is a school record.

Justin is the Emory varsity record holder in the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay.

Recently at the Emory Athletics and Recreation Banquet Justin was given the McCord Award, which is given for an outstanding career or season performance in an individual-based sport by male and female varsity student-athletes.

Justin has a 3.50 GPA and is majoring in English.


(March 18) EMORY FINISHES THIRD AT 2006 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Emory men's swimming and diving team finished in third place at the 2006 NCAA National Championships. The Eagles concluded the meet with 310 points.

Justin Hake continued his solid competition with a fourth place finish in the 200 yard butterfly. He touched the wall at 1:51.24 for 15 points. During the second day of competition he claimed the national championship in the 100 yard butterfly.

Nick Lake finished fifth in the 1650 freestyle in a time of 15:41.60 for 14 points. Also scoring for the Eagles was Tim Newton who finished 15th at 16:00.57 for two points.

Five Eagles competed in the final in hte 200 yard backstroke. Leading the way in the championship final were Brandon Burke and Alex Fleet. Burke finished seventh at 1:53.15 for 12 points, while Fleet was eighth at 1:54.54 for 11 points.

In the consolation final, Steve Inacker was 12th at 1:53.16 for five points, Thomas Roos in 15th at 1:53.50 for two points and Andrew Roos in 16th at 1:53.90 for one point.

Scott Bobo was 12th in the 200 yard breaststroke at 2:04.98 for five points, while Andrew Callam took 14th in the consolation final of the 100 yard freestyle with 46.11 for three points.

The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Callam, Inacker, Cary Burke and Hake finished ninth in the consolation final with a time of 3:05.25 for 18 points.

In diving, Mike Klein finished ninth with 422.30 points in the preliminaries, earning the team nine points.

Since 2000 Emory has finished no lower than third in the country. The team finished second in 2001, 2004 and 2005, while finishing third in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006.


(March 17) EMORY REMAINS THIRD AFTER DAY TWO OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Emory men's swimming and diving team remains in third place after the second day of competition at the 2006 NCAA National Championships. Emory has a total of 213 points.

Justin Hake led the Emory charges during day two as he claimed the national championship in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 48.15 for 20 points.

Harrison Brown competed in the consolation final of the 100 yard butterfly, finishing 14th in a time of 50.86 for three points.

The 400 yard individual medley saw six Emory competitors score. Leading the way was Tim Newton in third at 4:00.14 for 16 points. Nick Lake was sixth at 4:02.74 for 13 points.

Competing in the consolation final was Brandon Burke in 10th at 4:01.55 for seven points, Alex Levinger in 11th at 4:03.45 for 11 points, Andrew Roos in 15th at 4:06.68 for two points and Ryan Kolynych in 16th at 4:08.69 for one point.

Steve Inacker finished 14th in the consolation final of the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 52.50 for three points.

In relay competition Emory took fifth place finishes in both events. The 200 yard medley relay team of Inacker, Scott Bobo, Hake and Andrew Callam finished at 1:33.20 for 28 points. The 800 yard freestyle relay team of Randall Scarborough, Cary Burke, Lake and Newton finished comeptition in a time of 6:48.55 for 28 points as well.

Emory will conclude competition on Saturday with the final day of the championships.


(March 16) EMORY THIRD AFTER DAY ONE OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Emory men's swimming and diving team stands third after the first day at the NCAA Championships. The Eagles tallied 86 points for the day.

Highlighting the competition was Tim Newton's victory in the 500 yard freestyle. Newton touched the wall in a time of 4:26.00 for 24 points. Nick Lake finished sixth in the event at 4:32.04 for 13 points, while Randall Scarborough and Andrew Roos competed in the consolation final.

Scarborough finished 13th at 4:34.92 for four points, while Roos was 16th at 4:36.58 for one point.

In the 200 yard individual medley Brandon Burke finished eighth with a time of 1:56.61, scoring 11 points. Emory had three competitors in the consolation final with Thomas Roos finishing 12th at 1:53.62 for five points, Cary Burke in 14th at 1:54.30 for three points and Harrison Brown finishing 16th at 1:54.90 for one point.

Andrew Callam competed in the consolation final of the 50 yard freestyle, finishing 13th in a time of 20.95 for four points.

The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Callam, Justin Hake, Steve Inacker and Cary Burke finished seventh with a time of 1:23.32., earning the team 24 points.

Emory continues competition on Friday with the second day of the championships.


(Feb. 18) EMORY WINS EMORY INVITATIONAL

Emory finished first among three teams in the Emory Invitational.  The Eagles earned three provisional qualifications for the NCAA Division III national championships.

Senior, Jason Bodell earned a provisional qualification for nationals with his time in the 500-yard freestyle competition.

Junior, Andrew Roos and, freshman, Michael Cover finished first and second, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.

Emory's 200-yard medley relay team consisting of, sophomore, Steve Inacker, sophomore, Stefan Mianowski, senior, Justin Hake and, junior, Andrew Callam earned a provisional qualification for nationals in this event.

Sophomore, Stefan Mianowski won the 100-yard breaststroke.  Emory took first through fourth in this event.

Freshman, Tom Lesnick won the 100-yard backstroke while, sophomore, Nate Briones won the 200-yard breaststroke


(Feb. 17) EMORY EARNS TWO NATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS IN DAY 1 OF EMORY INVITATIONAL

The Eagles had a strong first day in the Emory Invitational with two provisional qualifications for the NCAA Division III national championships.

Junior, Alex Emerson earned a provisional qualification for nationals in the 1650-yard freestyle while, senior, Jason Bodell earned a provisional qualification in the 500-yard freestyle.

Emory continues competition in the Emory Invitational tomorrow.


(Feb. 11) EMORY WINS EIGHTH CONSECUTIVE UAA CHAMPIONSHIP

After the final day of competition Emory finishes first out of 8 teams in the UAA championships with a score of 1,102. This marks the eighth consecutive year that Emory has claimed the UAA's top honor.   Today Emory won two individual events and a diving event.

Sophomore, Nick Lake started the day with a win in the 1650-yard freestyle competition in a time of 15:54.58.

Senior, Brandon Burke, sophomore, Ben Johnson and, sophomore, Steve Inacker finished first through third, respectively in the 200-yard backstroke competition. Burke touched the wall at 1:52.14, while Johnson finished at 1:53.59 and Inacker at 1:53.81.

Senior, Mike Klein swept the diving awards, winning the 1-meter diving competition to go with his win in the 3-meter diving.

Emory earned numerous season honors this year in the UAA.  Senior, Mike Klein was awarded Male Diver of the Year.  Freshman, Randall Scarborough received Male Rookie of the Year honors.  Alex Kossenkov also earned Male Diving Coach of the Year.

The Eagles return to the pool Feb. 17-18 when they play host to the Emory Invitational at the Woodruff P.E. Center as they continue preperations for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

(Feb. 10) EMORY INCREASES LEAD IN DAY TWO OF UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Emory University remains in first place at the UAA Championships with a score of 731 which gives them a lead of 300 points after the second day.  Emory won two relay events and three individual events in today's competition.  They also earned two automatic qualifications for the NCAA Division III national championships.

Senior, Justin Hake won the 100-yard butterfly competition and automatically qualified for nationals with his time in this event.

Emory's 800-yard freestyle relay team consisting of, freshman, Randall Scarborough, freshman, Keith Diggs, sophomore, Cary Burke and, junior, Tim Newton also earned an automatic qualification for nationals with their first place time in this relay event.

Senior, Brandon Burke and, junior, Tim Newton finished first and second, respectively, in the 400-yard individual medley while, sophomore, Steve Inacker and, junior, Alex Fleet finished first and second, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke competition.

The Eagles also won the 200-yard medley relay with a team consisting of, sophomore, Steve Inacker, freshman, Scott Bobo, senior, Justin Hake and, sophomore, Cary Burke


(Feb. 9) EMORY RACES OUT TO BIG LEAD AFTER DAY ONE OF UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

After the first day of competition Emory University is in first place with 358 points.  The Eagles are currently leading the competition by 160.50.  Emory won two relay events, one individual event, and a diving event in today's competition.

The Eagles won both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay.  The 200-yard relay team consisted of, junior, Andrew Callam, senior, Justin Hake, sophomore, Steve Inacker and, sophomore, Cary Burke.  The 400-yard relay team consisted of, freshman, Keith Diggs, freshman, Scott Bobo, senior, Justin Hake and, junior, Andrew Callam.

Freshman, Randall Scarborough, junior, Tim Newton, freshman, Bruce Milburn and, freshman Keith Diggs finished first through fourth, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle.

Emory also took second through fifth in the 200-yard individual medley with, senior, Brandon Burke finishing second.

(Jan. 28) GEORGIA TECH DEFEATS EMORY 173-118

The Emory men's swimming and diving squad stepped out of Division III competition, traveling across town to take on Division I Georgia Tech to close out the regular season. The Eagles put up a strong fight before falling 173-118

Brandon Burke claimed first place in the men's 200 yard backstroke in a time of 1:54.80. Thomas Roos finished second at 1:55.19.

Burke also won the 200 yard individual medley in a time of 1:59.15. Roos also took second in this race with a 1:59.37.

Justin Hake claimed the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 50.74.

The relay team of Andrew Callam, Steve Inacker, Hake and Cary Burke won the 200 yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:26.44.

Mike Klein won the 3 meter diving competition with a 324.30. Sam Taft finished second with 178.82.

Emory will look to defend its UAA title, Feb. 8-11 when it plays host to the University Athletic Association Championships at the Woodruff P.E. Center. Emory has won the last seven UAA men's titles.


(Jan. 21) EMORY DEFEATS TRANSYLVANIA UNIVERSITY

Emory University defeated Transylvania University.  The Eagles won seven individual events, one relay, and both diving competitions.

Freshman, Keith Diggs won both the 100-yard backstroke and the 1650-yard freestyle.  Junior, Alex Emerson finished second in the 1650-freestyle.  Emory finished first through third in the 100-yard backstroke.

Sophomore, Cary Burke and, sophomore, Steve Inacker finished first and second, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.

Sophomore, Ben Johnson won the 200-yard freestyle while, junior, Tim Newton won the 400-yard individual medley.  Emory took first through third in each of these events.

Senior, Justin Hake won the 100-yard butterfly competition while, junior, Andrew Callam won the 100-yard freestyle.  The Eagles also finished first through third in these two events.

Senior, Mike Klein won both diving events and Emory also won the 200-yard medley relay.

Emory is currently 6-2 this season in dual meets


(Jan. 14) EMORY DEFEATS SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ARTS AND DESIGN

The Eagles defeated the Savannah College of Arts and Design by a score of 123-74.  Emory won two relay events and six individual events.

Freshman, Keith Diggs led the way in the 1000-yard freestyle competition as Emory finished first through fourth.

Junior, Tim Newton finished first in the 200-yard freestyle while, junior, Andrew Callam and, sophomore, Cary Burke finished first and second, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.

In the 400-yard individual medley, sophomore, Nick Lake and, senior, Brandon Burke took first and second, respectively.

Freshman, Harrison Brown finished first in the 200-yard butterfly competition and, sophomore, Nate Briones won the 200-yard breaststroke.

Emory won both the 400-yard freestyle and the 400-yard medley relay events.

With this win Emory moves to a record of 5-2 in dual meets this season


(Jan. 12) EMORY DEFEATS THE UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA

Emory University defeated the University of Tampa 153.5-108.5.  The Eagles won six individual events in the meet.

Sophomore, Ben Johnson and, junior, Tim Newton finished first and second, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle competition.  Newton also won the 500-yard freestyle.  The Eagles took first through fifth in this event.

Freshman, Harrison Brown, sophomore, Nick Lake and, freshman, Bruce Milburn finished first through third, respectively, in the 200-yard butterfly competition.

Senior, Brandon Burke lead Emory with a win in the 200-yard individual medley.  The Eagles finished first through fourth in this event.

Emory also took first through fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke led by, freshman, Scott Bobo.

Sophomore, Nick Lake also won the 1000-yard freestyle competition.  Emory finished first through fourth in this event.

The Eagles move to a 4-2 overall record in dual meets this season


(Dec. 10) EMORY DEFEATS ROLLINS COLLEGE
The Eagles defeated Rollins College this Saturday 140-103.  Emory won two relay events and six individual events.

Led by freshman, Harrison Brown, who finished first, the Eagles took first through fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Junior, Alex Emerson won the 200-yard freestyle.  Freshman, Tom Lesnick won the 100-yard backstroke.  And, sophomore, Nate Briones finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke.  Emory took first through fourth in all three of these events.

Sophomore, Nick Lake finished first in the 200-yard butterfly.  The Eagles placed in the top three positions in this event.

Sophomore, Alex Levinger and, sophomore, Weathers Bolt took first and second place, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Eagles took first and second place in the 200-yard freestyle relay and also won the 400-yard medley relay.

The Eagles are currently 3-2 in dual meets this season


(Dec. 3) EMORY CONCLUDES COMPETITION AT MIAMI INVITATIONAL
The Emory swimming and diving team concluded participation Saturday in the Miami Invitational in Miami, Ohio.

Highlighting the final day for Emory was Tim Newton claiming first in the 500 yard freestyle. Newton touched the wall in a time of 4:30.03. Nick Lake finished seventh in the event at 4:41.88.

Justin Hake took third place in the 100 yard buttefly in a time of 49.18, while Andrew Callam finished 10th at 51.32. Callam also competed in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing seventh at 46.39.

The 200 yard individual medley saw four Eagles finished four through seven. Cary Burke finished fourth at 1:54.90, while Thomas Roos was fifth at 1:55.13. Scott Bobo was sixth at 1:55.47 and Alex Levinger rounded out the group in seventh at 1:55.69.

The 400 yard freestyle relay team of Newton, Keith Diggs, Hake and Callam finished sixth with a time of 3:06.58.

The Eagles will be back in action, Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Woodruff P.E. Center when they welcome Rollins College. Meet time is set for 11:30 a.m.


(Dec. 3) EMORY COMPETES AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH
The Emory University men's swimming and diving squad competed against the University of the South Saturday at the Woodruff P.E. Center. The Eagles, competing in 13 events took top honors in 11 to gain the victory.

Thee 1000 yard freestyle saw Jason Bodell take top honors in a time of 9:54.65, while Bruce Milburn and Alex Emerson finished second and third respectively. Milburn finished at 9:56.67, while Emerson touched at 10:13.65.

The 200 yard freestyle saw Weathers Bolt and Randall Scarborough finish first and second, respectively. Bolt finished at 1:44.49, while Scarborough was 1:47.93.

The 100 yard backstroke saw Brandon Burke place first after finishing in a time of 54.11, while in the 100 yard breaststroke Shunpei Okochi finished first at 1:02.25.

The 200 yard butterfly saw Bruce Milburn take top honors with a 200.05 timed finish. Scarborough bettered his second-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a first-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 50.20.

Burke took another top finish for the afternoon in the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 1:56.45. The 200 yard breaststroke saw Will Heath finish first in a time of 2:14.82, while Jason Bodell was the top finisher in the 500 yard freestyle at 4:49.96.

Burke claimed his third top finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.17.

Diver Mike Klein claimed a score of 301.10 to take diving on the 3 meter board.

The Eagles return to action Saturday, Dec. 10 when they play host to Rollins College. Meet time is set for 11:00 a.m.


(Dec. 2) EMORY FINISHES SECOND DAY OF COMPETITION AT MIAMI INVITATIONAL
Emory University's men's swimming & diving team concluded the second day of competition at the Miami University Invitational.

Harrison Brown turned in the day's top performance for the Eagles, winning the men's 200 yard butterfly in a time of 1:51.68.

The men's 400 yard individual medley saw six Eagles finish in the top 10 with Tim Newton touching the wall first for the Emory contingent in second with a time of 4:01.70. Alex Levinger finished fourth at 4:03.65, while Nick Lake and Andrew Roos finished fifth and sixth, respectfully. Lake finished at 4:06.81, while Roos completed at 4:08.25. Rouding out the competitors was Ryan Kolynych in seventh at 4:09.25 and Thomas Roos in ninth at 4:11.09.

The 400 yard medley relay team of Steve Inacker, Scott Bobo, Justin Hake and Andrew Callam finished fifth in a time of 45.88, while the 200 yard freestyle relay team of Justin Hake, Steve Inacker, Cary Burke and Andrew Callam were sixth after finishing in a time of 1:24.45.

Emory returns to action tomorrow with the final day of competition. The squad will be split tomorrow with the other half of the squad at home at the Woodruff P.E. Center as it hosts the University of the South.


(Dec. 1) EMORY COMPLETES FIRST DAY AT MIAMI INVITATIONAL
Emory University's men's swimming & diving team completed the first day of competition at the Miami University Invitational.

Highlighting the meet was Nick Lake taking third in the men's 1650 yard freestyle in a time of 15:49.02. Keith Diggs also, competed, finishing 12th in a time of 16:27.74.

The men's 800 yard freestyle relay team of Cary Hurke, Justin Hake, Keith Diggs and Nick Lake finished seventh in a time of 6:57.80.

Action continues Friday through Saturday.


(Nov. 18) EMORY LOSES TO UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
Emory University lost to NCAA Division I University of Georgia 163-117.  The Eagles had some strong individual efforts in the meet.

Sophomore, Nick Lake and, freshman, Keith Diggs finished second and third, respectively, in the 1000-yard freestyle competition.

Freshman, Harrison Brown finished second in the 200-yard butterfly competition.

Emory's 200-yard medley relay team placed second.

Emory is currently 1-2 in dual meets this season.


(Nov. 5) EMORY WINS CARNEGIE MELLON INVITATIONAL
Emory University finished first among four teams at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.  The Eagles won seven individual events and placed second in four relay events.

Sophomore, Alex Levinger and, sophomore, Nick Lake finished first and second, respectively, in the 400-yard individual medley.  Both Levinger and Lake earned an NCAA Division III national championship provisional qualifying time in this event.  Lake also finished first in the 500-yard freestyle compeition and the 1650-yard freestyle competition.

Senior, Justin Hake also earned a provisional qualifying time with his first place time in the 100-yard butterfly competition.

Junior, Tim Newton won the 200-yard freestyle competition.

Emory is currently 1-1 this season.


(Oct. 29)EAGLES LOSE CLOSE MATCH TO DIVISION I OPPONENT
Emory lost a close match against NCAA Division I University of North Carolina Wilmington 131-157.  The Eagles placed first in four individual events and a diving event.

Sophomore, Nick Lake finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.  Freshman Keith Diggs placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle while, senior, Jason Bodell and, freshman, Bruce Milburn finished second and third, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle.

Senior, Justin Hake placed first in the 100-yard butterfly while, freshman, Scott Bobo finished first in the 200-yard individual medley.

Senior, Mike Klein placed first in the 1-meter diving competition.

The Eagles are currently 1-1 this season.


(Oct. 15) EMORY OPENS SEASON WITH VICTORY OVER DAVIDSON
Emory University won their season opening meet against Davidson College 144.5 to 90.5.  The Eagles won seven individual events, one relay event, and both diving events.

Sophomore, Nick Lake won both the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyle competitions while senior, Justin Hake won the 50-yard freestyle.

Junior, Thomas Roos placed first in the 200-yard backstroke while Emory took first through fifth in this event.  Senior, Brandon Burke finished first in the 200-yard individual-medley.

Two freshmen for Emory also earned first place finishes in the meet.  Freshman, Harrison Brown placed first in the 200-yard butterfly, while, freshman, Scott Bobo came in first in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Senior, Michael Klein finished first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions.  Emory also won the 400-yard medley relay.

With this win Emory opens the season with a record of 1-0.
