My favorite class at Emory and why: Multivariable Calculus - I found it both challenging and interesting and Professor Borthwick made the topic very approachable.
The people who have helped me most at Emory are and why: My teammates - they've been my best friends since I've been at Emory and constantly motivate me to be a better swimmer and teammate.
Any pre-meet rituals: I usually put together a new pair of goggles, go through the same stretching/warm-up routine, eat a Powerbar, and try to appear as calm as possible even though I'm usually really nervous.
If I could have dinner with only three people in history, they would be: John F. Kennedy, Mike Eruzione, Rowdy Gaines
The best advice I have ever been given and who gave it to you: "Don't be afraid to follow your dreams," - said by my mother.
What is something that very few, if any, people know about you: I burnt down part of my grandmother's house when I was 5 years old (a decent number of people know this, but an interesting fact nonetheless)

Atmospheric Chemistry. It's beyond easy and kind of fun.

why: My fellow swimmers who suffer through the pain with
me, particularly the Class of '09 and the distance group.
Any pre-meet rituals: Before every race I look at
all the people seated ahead of me in a heat and tell myself how
AWESOME it's going to be when they finish behind me.

& diving team: There are other sports?

The best advice I have ever been given and who gave it to
you:
"Wear sunscreen." - my mom.
"Eat some vegetables." - Cynthia at the DUC.
"Be EXPLOSIVE." - Steve Lewis.
What is something that very few, if any, people know about
you: I used to be afraid of opposites because I thought
they were big elephant-like creatures that would follow our
mini-van when we went on road trips at night.

What I like most about Emory: Unlike a lot of
Division I schools, I can swim but also have a life outside of
swimming. It is also much easier to find a balance between swimming
and academics.
I would like to switch places for the day with: My
dad when they he was my age.
My favorite place on the Emory campus: The
café in the Carlos Museum... best lunch on campus.

My favorite class at Emory and why: The Chemistry
of Wine was my freshmen seminar. It was just a lot of fun while
learning a lot about wine. I just thought it was a unique
class.
The people who have helped me most at Emory are and
why: Jon Howell, my head coach, has helped me a lot in
planning everything for swimming, but has also helped me in terms
of academic advising and he's just easy to talk to.
Any pre-meet rituals: I do the same stretch
routine while waiting behind the blocks every time.
The sport I would be playing if I were not on the swimming &
diving team:
Crew. I was actually recruited for that sport as well because I
rowed in high school.
If I could have dinner with only three people in history,
they would be: Robin Williams, Thomas Jefferson, and Mark
Spitz
The best advice I have ever been given and who gave it to
you: "4 years from now, unless you make the Olympics, you
probably won't be making a living off of swimming, so have fun
doing it now." - My dad giving me advice on whether to go to a
Division I or Division III school for swimming in college.
What is something that very few, if any, people know about
you: I used to be a professional snare drummer in the
Colonial Williamsburg Fife and Drum Corps.
