2007-08 Men's Swimming & Diving Season Recap

The Emory University Men's Swimming and Diving team proved in 2008 once again why it is considered one of the top-programs in the Nation, as the Eagles finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.  Despite the fact that the Eagles finished outside the top-three teams for the first time since the 1998-99 season, Emory recorded its 10th-consecutive top-10 finish at the National Meet.

Emory was paced at the National Meet by junior Keith Diggs, who won the National Championship in the 400-yard individual medley in a school-record time of 3:54.80.  Diggs also earned all-America honors with a second-place finish and school-record time of 15:33.71 in the 1,650-yard freestyle.  Senior Nick Lake led the team with three all-America certificates, coming with a fourth-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle, a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, and an eighth-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley.  Lake ended his career with 12 all-America certificates, the fourth-most in school history, and became just the fifth Emory men's swimmer to earn all-America honors in the same event (1,650-yard freestyle) during each of his four seasons.

Other all-Americans for the Eagles included Scott Bobo in the 200-yard individual medley, Randall Scarborough in the 200-yard freestyle, Bruce Milburn in the 1,650-yard freestyle, Mark Bernstein in the 200-yard butterfly, and the Eagles' 200-yard medley relay team.  All together, 10 Emory swimmers earned 13 all-America certificates, and 11 Eagles came away with 26 all-America honorable mention certificates.

The Eagles also claimed their 10th-consecutive University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship, scoring 1,704 points to finish 291 ahead of second-place Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.).  Sophomore Kevin Yamada led the way for Emory with three conference championships, coming in the 200-yard individual medley, the 100-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard breaststroke.  John Petroff earned conference championships in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard butterfly, while Keith Diggs claimed the top-spot in the 400-yard individual medley.

Emory finished the regular season with a 6-4 record in dual meets, including wins over Division I institutions Davidson College (N.C.), and the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.  The Eagles also finished third out of 13 teams at the Miami University (Ohio) Invitational, while competing against mostly Division I squads.
