2008-09 Men's Swimming & Diving Season Recap

The Emory University men's swimming and diving team completed a banner 2008-09 season, finishing second in the nation and first in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while setting 16 program records and 21 all-America honors during the campaign.

The Eagles finished second at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, matching the best finish in the history of the program, previously achieved in 2001, 2004 and 2005.  At the championships, the Eagles set school records in 16 different events, including 11 individual races.  Emory swimmers also earned eight all-America honorable mention certificates during the meet.

A pair of seniors led the way for Emory at the NCAA championships, with Harrison Brown and Randall Scarborough each earning six all-America certificates.  The top finish at the meet by an Eagle came from senior Keith Diggs, who claimed second in the 400-yard individual medley, while freshman Paul Weinstein made his mark with a third-place finish and school record in the 1,650-yard freestyle.  Emory totaled 402 points during the championship meet.

The Eagles also maintained their consecutive-conference title streak, winning the University Athletic Association Championship for the 11th-straight year.  Weinstein was named the third UAA Rookie of the Year in the history of the program with a third-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle, while junior Tom DiMarco paced the team with three individual championships and six all-UAA honors.  Also winning UAA Championships for Emory was Diggs in the 400-yard individual medley and the Eagles' 200-yard medley relay team.

Emory finished its season with a 5-4 record in dual meets, including wins over Division I schools Davidson and Wingate.

In addition to their success in the pool, Brown and Diggs each received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and were named to the ESPN the Magazine/ CoSIDA Academic all-District First Team for their work in the classroom and the community during their athletic careers.
