Sophomore (2007-08):
Yamada earned his first all-America certificate during his sophomore campaign as part of the Eagles' eighth-place 200-yard medley relay team. He also earned three all-America honorable mentions, coming in the 200-yard individual medley, the 100-yard breaststroke, and as part of the 400-yard medley relay team. Yamada's mark of 56.90 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke set a new school record. Yamada paced the Emory men's squad at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, earning the conference championship in the 100-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard individual medley, in addition to an all-UAA honor in the 200-yard medley relay. He was second on the squad with 289.75 points scored during the year.
Freshman (2006-07):
Yamada competed in five different events for the Eagles during the 2006-07 season, as the freshman scored a total of 151.50 points during the campaign.

Attended Saint John's High School, where he competed on the school's swim team for one season... Swam the 200 meter IM, breaststroke and backstroke and the 100 meter breaststroke... Was coached by Matthew Craven... Swam for the Swamut Aquatic Club at the Junior Nationals... Also played soccer in high school.
