Emory University sophomore Peter O’Brien set a school record in the 200-yard breaststroke, recorded five NCAA Division III ‘A’ cut and five ‘B’ cut times, and finished first in five events, while facing mostly Division I competition at the Miami University Invitational. O’Brien’s ‘A’ cut time of 2:00.26 in the 200-yard breaststroke was the best time by a Division III swimmer this season and good for a first-place finish, breaking his own school record of 2:00.77 set during the preliminaries earlier in the day. He also recorded the best time by a D-III swimmer this season in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning the event with a ‘B’ cut time of 56.11 seconds, the fourth-fastest time in school history. O’Brien recorded a pair of automatic qualifying times in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing first with a time of 1:51.24 in the finals after swimming a mark of 1:51.77 in the preliminaries, and claimed second in the 400-yard individual medley with a ‘B’ cut time of 4:00.12 in the finals, after a mark of 4:00.00 in the preliminaries. He helped the Eagles to a pair of relay victories as well, recording an ‘A’ cut time of 3:19.92 as part of the 400-yard medley relay team (the fourth-fastest time in school history) and a ‘B’ cut time of 1:31.28 in the 200-yard medley relay (the third-fastest time in school history). O’Brien scored 174 points during the meet, helping the third-ranked Eagles to a first-place finish.
