Emory University swimmers Anne Culpepper and
Paul Weinstein were each named to the Capital One
Academic All-District At-Large First Team, as selected by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), based on
their performances both in the pool and the classroom during the
2010-11 season.
The honor was the first of Culpepper’s career.
Weinstein was named to the Academic all-District Second Team during
the 2009-10 season.
Culpepper claimed her second-straight National Title in the
200-yard backstroke, and was part of the Eagles’ winning
400-yard freestyle relay at the 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming and
Diving Championships. The junior also claimed all-America
honors in the 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle and 800-yard
freestyle relay, giving her 11 for her career. She is the
current school record holder in the 200-yard backstroke, and the
200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Academically, Culpepper has a 3.83 grade point average as an
English and Economics major. She is a two-time UAA academic
honoree and CSCAA Scholar All-American.
Weinstein earned all-America honors with a fourth-place finish in
the 1,650-yard freestyle, the third all-America honor of his
career. He also claimed an all-America honorable mention with
a 15th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. At
the 2011 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, the
junior claimed the conference championships in both the 1,650 free
and 500 free. The 2009 UAA Rookie of the Year is the school
record holder in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:19.78) and the
1,650-yard freestyle (15:27.89).
Weinstein has a 3.86 grade point average as a business major.
He has earned CSCAA Scholar all-America and UAA academic honors
during his career.
Swimming and diving in one of 13 sports included in the At-Large
category. The others include the sports of bowling, crew,
fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse,
rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo, wrestling.
By virtue of being named to the all-district first team, both
Culpepper and Weinstein will be placed on the ballot for the
Capital One Academic all-America teams.
Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Emory
nominees represent the "college division" in District 3 which is
composed of NCAA Division II and III, and NAIA schools in the
states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and
Virginia.
