Gold Beats Blue in Emory Swimming & Diving Intra-Squad Meet

In the first meet of the season for the Emory University swimming and diving teams, an Eagles-only intra-squad contest, the Gold team beat the Blue team by a score of 314-269 at the Blue-Gold Meet on Friday.

For the Gold team, freshman Sadie Nennig got her career off to a quick start, recording ‘B’ cut times of 58.31 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke and 2:06.49 in the 200-yard backstroke.  For the Blue squad, senior all-American April Whitley recorded ‘B’ cut times of 1:05.71 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:24.67 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The high scorer among the men for the blue team was freshman Ross Spock, who totaled 21.75 points with first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke, the 50-yard freestyle, and as the backstroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay team, in addition to a second-place finish as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team.  For the men on the gold team, sophomore Peter O’Brien was the top scorer with 21 points, with first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard breaststroke, a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, and a second-place finish as the breaststroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay team.

For the women on the blue team, Whitley was the top scorer with first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley, and as the breaststroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay.  Junior all-American Anne Culpepper was top scorer for the gold team, scoring 22 points with first-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, and third-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team.

The Eagles will begin intercollegiate competition on Saturday, October 30th at 1:00 PM, as Emory will host UNC Wilmington at 1:00 PM at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
