The Emory University swimming and diving teams split their dual meet at Division II Wingate University on Saturday, as the top-ranked Emory women defeated the 15^th-ranked Bulldogs 127-99, while Emory’s second-ranked men suffered a 131-90 loss to 11^th-ranked Wingate.

Emory freshman Sadie Nennig recorded the only NCAA Division III qualifying time of the meet, swimming a ‘B’ cut mark of 58.73 seconds and finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke.  Nennig would also finish first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.54.

The Eagles would finish strong in the 50-yard freestyle, as junior Claire Pavlak claimed first-place, followed by freshman Ellen Schafer and senior Morgan Klinzing in second and third, respectively.  Other first-place finishers for the Emory women included senior Amy Minowitz in the 1,000-yard freestyle, junior Anne Culpepper in the 200-yard freestyle, junior Jennifer Aronoff in the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Renee Rosenkranz in the 100-yard freestyle and freshman Jennifer Pak in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Emory women would also claim first in two relays, as the 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Jacqueline Schneider, Aronoff, Klinzing, and freshman Suzanne Lemberg won the event with a time of 1:50.72, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lemberg, Schafer, Pak and Culpepper claimed a victory with a time of 1:39.06.  In total, the Emory women finished first in 10 of the 13 events.

The men received two first-place finishes in swimming events at the meet, one coming from freshman Ross Spock in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.20 seconds.  Spock was also part of Emory’s winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, joining freshman Abhijan Khosla, freshman Ryan Bass, and junior Sean Ransenberg for a time of 1:26.33. 

Junior Paul Weinstein recorded the best time by an Eagle this season in the 1,000-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 9:47.51 and finishing second in the event.  Junior Patrick Augustyn (100 fly), sophomore Peter O’Brien (100 breast) and the Eagles’ 200-yard medley relay team of junior Jared Dubnow, O’Brien, sophomore Stephen Czaja and Khosla all had second-place finishes as well during the meet.

With the win, the Emory women improved to 4-3 in dual meets this season, while the Wingate women fell to 8-2.  The Emory men dropped to 3-4 on the season with the loss, while the Wingate men raised their record to 8-2.

Emory will return to Atlanta for its final home meet of the season next weekend, as the Eagles will host NCAA Division I Clemson University at the Woodruff P.E. Center on Saturday, Febuary 5^th, starting at 1:00 PM.
