Emory Swimming and Diving Competes at Blue-Gold Meet

In the squad's final tune-up before the regular season, the Eagles competed in their second intrasquad competition of the season on Saturday, the Blue-Gold Meet.

On the women's side, the Blue team took home the meet victory by a score of 156-132 over the Gold team.  It was the Gold team that got the better of the Blue team for the men, winning 169-118.

The Emory women turned in six NCAA 'B' cut performances during the meet, led by sophomore Sadie Nennig, who recorded times of 58.33 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke and 2:06.46 in the 200-yard backstroke.  Other 'B' cut times during the meet included sophomore Jennifer Pak's 1:53.67 in the 200-yard freestyle, junior Leslie Hackler's 2:08.52 in the 200-yard butterfly, senior Anne Culpepper's 2:06.41 in the 200-yard backstroke, and the Eagles' 400-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Suzanne Lemberg, senior Whitley Taylor, senior Claire Pavlak and junior Anna Dobben, which recorded a time of 3:32.68.

First-place finishes for the Emory women came from Culpepper in the 1000 free and 200 back, Pak in the 200 free, Nennig in the 100 back, senior Jennifer Aronoff in the 100 breast, Hackler in the 200 fly, Pavlak in the 50 free, freshman Nancy Larson in the 100 free, sophomore Kylie McKenzie in the 200 breast and 100 fly, freshman McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg in the 500 free, sophomore Brooke Woodward in the 200 IM, and sophomore Sarah Greene in the one- and three-meter dives.

On the men's side, newcomer Jake Stephens, a sophomore transfer from the University of Maryland, led the squad with three first-place finishes, claiming the top spot in the 100 free, 200 free and 200 IM.  Other first-place finishes came from senior Paul Weinstein in the 1000 free, sophomore Ross Spock in the 100 back, junior Peter O'Brien in the 100 breast and 200 breast, senior Patrick Augustyn in the 100 fly and 200 fly, sophomore Ryan Bass in the 50 free, freshman Colin Heil in the 200 back, freshman Andrew Dillinger in the 500 free, and senior Daniel Kolb in the one- and three-meter dives.

Emory will kick off its intercollegiate competition next weekend, as the Eagles will travel to face Division I UNC Wilmington at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 22nd.
