Emory University senior Patrick Augustyn and the Eagles' women's 200-yard freestyle relay each won events during day two of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, as the Emory women ended the day with a commanding lead on first place, and the men completed competition on Thursday in third place.

Halfway through competition at the meet in Indianapolis, Indiana, Emory's women extended their lead over second-place Williams to 87 points, totaling 348 points through two days of competition.  The Emory men have scored 198 points, sitting 92 points behind leaders Denison University and 89 points behind second-place Kenyon College.

Augustyn won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.22 seconds in the final.  It was his second career Division III Championship, after claiming a victory in the 200-yard butterfly last season, and finishing fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in 2011. 

Augustyn becomes just the second Eagle in the program's history to earn multiple National Championships in an individual swimming event, joining Chris Halstead who won the 200 backstroke title in 2004 and 2005.  It was the 10^th individual National Championship by an Emory men's swimmer or diver, and the second in the 100-yard butterfly, after Justin Hake won the event in 2006.

The Eagles claimed the National Championship in the 200-yard freestyle relay for the third time in four seasons, as junior Renee Rosenkranz, junior Anna Dobben, junior Ann Wolber and senior Claire Pavlak won the event title with a time of 1:32.38.  It was the third career National Championship in the event for Pavlak, who increased her program record to eight D-III titles.  It was Wolber's fourth National Championship, and the first for each of Rosenkranz and Dobben.  For the program, it was the 10^th Division III relay championship, and second of the meet after the squad claimed a win in the 200-yard medley relay on day one.

A pair of Emory women took home all-America honors in the 400-yard individual medley, with sophomore Brooke Woodward claiming her first career certificate with a time of 4:24.27, while junior Taryn Lushinsky finished seventh with a time of 4:24.59 (4:23.31 in the preliminaries) for her second career all-America honor.  Emory also had the two top finishers in the consolation final, with freshman Megan Beach (ninth, 4:25.37) and junior Mia Michalak (10^th, 4:26.31) earning all-America honorable mentions.

The Eagles also had two all-America finishes in the 200-yard freestyle, with senior Whitley Taylor earning her fourth career individual all-America certificate with a second-place finish in a time of 1:50.44.  Senior Anne Culpepper finished fifth with a time of 1:51.08, while freshman Nancy Larson (ninth-place, 1:50.96) and Wolber (13^th-place, 1:51.83 in the preliminaries) claimed honorable mention certificates.

Adding an honorable mention finish for Emory's women on day two was junior Leslie Hackler, who finished 11^th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.94 seconds.

The Emory women rounded out day two with a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay, as sophomore Sadie Nennig, senior Jennifer Aronoff, Hackler and Pavlak finished third with a time of 3:45.74.

Emory's women totaled six all-America honors and five honorable mentions during day two, bringing the Eagles' total to 14 all-America certificates and 11 honorable mentions thus far.

For the second-straight season, the Emory men's 200-yard freestyle relay team set a school record in a second-place finish, as sophomore Ryan Bass, junior Richard Upton, senior Sean Ransenberg and sophomore Ross Spock earned all-America honors with a  time of 1:20.93.

Emory also set a record in the 400-yard medley relay, as Spock, junior Peter O'Brien, Augustyn and sophomore Jake Stephens finished third with a program-best time of 3:17.55, to earn all-America honors in the event.

In the men's 400-yard individual medley, first-year transfers Miller Douglas and Stephens each claimed all-America certificates, with the junior Douglas finished third with a time of 3:55.35 (including a mark of 3:54.30 in the preliminaries), while the sophomore Stephens finished seventh with a time of 3:59.89 (including a mark of 3:58.52 in the prelims).

Sophomore Matt O'Brien added an all-America honorable mention finish, placing 11^th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.41.

The Emory men added on five more all-America honors and one more honorable mention during day two, running the squad's total to eight all-America finishes and four honorable mentions.

The Eagles will resume competition at the NCAA Division III Championships on Friday, with the daily preliminaries kicking off at 10:00 AM, and the final starting at 6:00 PM.
