Emory Men Finish Third at NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships

The Emory University men's swimming and diving team recorded its fourth-straight top-three finish in the Nation on Saturday, finishing third at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana.

It marked the eighth third-place finish overall in the program's history, and the 12th time the team has finished among the top-three teams at the NCAA Championships.

The Eagles totaled 342 points during the four-day meet, finishing behind National Champion Denison University (600 points) and Kenyon College (519 points) for the second-straight season.

Emory's 400-yard freestyle relay recorded the top finish of the day for the Eagles, as sophomore Jake Stephens, senior Sean Ransenberg, sophomore Ross Spock and sophomore Ryan Bass finished fourth in the event with a time of 3:00.27 in the finals.

Emory senior Paul Weinstein started the Eagles on day four off with an all-America finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle.  Weinstein was able to win his heat during the morning session with a time of 15:40.47, translating to a fifth-place overall finish in the timed finals of the event.  It marked the fourth time in as many years that he has claimed all-America honors in the 1,650 free.

Junior Peter O'Brien won the consolation final of the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing ninth overall with a time of 2:02.98, and Spock finished 15th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.75 seconds (including a time of 45.20 in the prelims), as each claimed all-America honorable mentions on the final day of the meet.

Emory finished the 2012 NCAA Championships with 10 individual all-America honors and five in relay events, in addition to seven individual all-America honorable mention finishes.  Senior Patrick Augustyn capped off his Emory career with two National Championships during the meet, winning the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard butterfly.

The meet concludes the 2012 season for the Eagles.
