Prior to Emory:
Swam for the University of California - Berkeley for two years before transfering to Emory... For the Golden Bears in 2009, had the team's second-best time in the 200 fly (1:44.61) and fourth-best marks in the 400 IM (3:51.31) and 1000 free (9:38.70)... Swam for the Westminster Schools for four years in high school, serving as the team captain during the 2007-08 season... Was an all-American and a state champion in high school... Helped his team to state championships from 2005-2008... Coached by Pete Higgins in high school... Also competed for the Swim Atlanta club team, where he was coached by Mark Minier... Won the 400 IM and 200 fly at the 2007 Emory Fall Invitational as a high school student... Qualified for the 2008 Olympic Trials... Was the 18 and Under SC National Champion in the 200 fly.
