Emory Aims for National Titles at the NCAA Championships this Week

The Emory University Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams will travel to Shenandoah, Texas for the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships this week, with each squad having its sights set on winning a National Title.

The NCAA Championships, hosted by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the City of Shenandoah, will be held at the Conroe Natatorium from Wednesday, March 20th through Saturday, March 23rd.  The preliminaries of each event will begin daily at 11:00 AM ET, with the finals starting at 7:00 PM ET each day.

The Eagles will be represented at the meet by a total of 31 athletes, including 18 women and 13 men.  Selections for the Emory men include sophomore Hayden Baker, junior Ryan Bass, senior Justin Beegle, senior Stephen Czaja, senior Miller Douglas, freshman Matt Kuhlik senior Peter O'Brien, senior Jeff Simpson, junior Ross Spock, junior Jake Stephens, senior Richard Upton, freshman Andrew Wilson, and freshman Eagan Zettlemoyer.

 

Receiving entries for the Emory women were freshman Elizabeth Aronoff, sophomore Megan Beach, freshman Mikayla Carnley,  senior Anna Dobben, senior Leslie Hackler, sophomore Nancy Larson, senior Taryn Lushinsky, junior Kylie McKenzie, senior Mia Michalak, sophomore McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg, junior Sadie Nennig, junior Courtney McDermott, senior Renee Rosenkranz, senior Ann Wolber, junior Brooke Woodward, sophomore Michelle York, and sophomore Nina Zook.  In addition, junior diver Sarah Greene will be making her first NCAA appearance after qualifying at the NCAA Regional Diving Meet earlier in the month.

Emory's women, currently ranked first in Division III, will enter the meet looking for their fourth-consecutive NCAA Team Championship, and sixth overall in the program's history.  Among the returning competitors for the Emory women are 2012 National Champions in Dobben (200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay), Hackler (200 Medley Relay), Larson (400 Free Relay), Nennig (200 Back, 200 Medley Relay), Rosenkranz (200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay) and Wolber (200 Free Relay), in addition to 2012 all-Americans in Lushinsky, McDermott, Michalak, Newsum-Schoenberg, and Woodward.

The Emory men have finished third at each of the last three NCAA Championship meets, and have finished as high as second at the meet on four occasions (2001, 2004, 2005 and 2009).  The Eagles have finished in the top-six at each of the last 14 NCAA Championships, including 12 top-three finishes during the stretch.  Returning all-Americans from last year's meet for Emory include Bass, Czaja, Douglas, O'Brien, Simpson, Spock, Stephens and Upton.
