Spock, Aronoff & Greene Named Final UAA Swimmers & Diver of the Week for 2013-14

Emory University senior Ross Spock and sophomore Elizabeth Aronoff were selected as the final University Athletic Association (UAA) Swimmers of the Week for the season after each claimed an individual National Title at the 2014 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, while senior Sarah Greene was named the UAA Diver of the Week after earning her first career all-America honor at the meet.

Spock won three events and set five school records at the NCAA Championships helping the Eagles to a third-place finish.  Spock tied for first place in the 100-yard backstroke, winning the National Title with a school-record time of 47.62 seconds, just six-hundredths of a second off the Division III record.  It was the 13th individual National Championship in the program's history, and the first ever by an Eagle in the 100-yard backstroke.  He also claimed first-place finishes as the backstroke leg of both of Emory's medley relays, helping the 200-yard medley relay to a win with a time of 1:28.16, and the 400-yard medley relay to a victory with a time of 3:15.13.  Both relay times set new school records, and the 400-yard medley relay mark was just four hundredths of a second off the Division III record time.  Spock was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 20.15 seconds, and finished in sixth place in the 200-yard backstroke after swimming a school-record time of 1:47.34 in the preliminaries.  He added another runner-up finish as a part of the Eagles' 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:20.96) and finished in 10th as a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:01.16).  Spock's six all-America honors during the meet pushed his career total to 21, the most ever by an Eagle.

This was Spock's seventh career UAA Athlete of the Week honor, and his fourth of the season.

Aronoff helped lead the Eagles to their fifth-consecutive National Title, winning the National Championship in the 200-yard breaststroke on the final day of the meet with a time of 2:14.37, breaking the previous school record mark of 2:14.62, set by former Eagle April Whitley at the 2011 NCAA Championships.  It was the 26th individual National Championship in the program's history, along with 13 relay National Titles, and the first in an individual event by an Eagle since Sadie Nennig won the 200-yard backstroke in 2012.  Aronoff also earned all-America honors with a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.53.  She added a 19th-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:06.83.

This was her third UAA Athlete of the Week honor this season and the fourth total of her career.

Greene finished eighth in the three-meter dive after recording a season-best score of 452.80 during the preliminaries.  She also claimed an all-America Honorable Mention with a 10th-place finish in the three-meter dive, registering a score of 397.70 during the finals.  Greene has accumulated 15 UAA Athlete of the Week honors over her career, including six this season.

The Emory women claimed their fifth-consecutive NCAA Division III Championship and seventh overall in the program's history at the meet, while the men placed third, marking the 13th top-three finish in the program's history.
