Thompson & Baker Qualify for Event Finals during Day 2 of Arena Pro Series at Austin

Two more Emory University swimmers stood out during the second day of competition at the Arena Pro Swim Series at Austin on Friday, with junior Ellie Thompson reaching the finals of the 200-meter backstroke, and sophomore Christian Baker qualifying for the finals of the 200-meter freestyle.

Thompson finished 29th overall in the 200-meter backstroke, swimming a time of 2:20.07 in the finals, following a 29th-place finish with a mark of 2:20.95 during the morning's preliminary session.  Baker notched a 23rd-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle with a mark of 1:55.26, following his mark of 1:54.28 in the morning, good for a 29th-place finish in the preliminaries.

The Emory women participated in the preliminaries of two other events on Friday.  In the 200-meter freestyle, senior Nancy Larson claimed 75th place in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:09.31, and was followed closely by senior McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg in 76th place with a time of 2:09.77.  Larson was also Emory's top finisher in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.20 seconds, good for 55th place, while sophomore Claire Liu finished 67th in the event with a mark of 27.82 seconds.

Also in action for the Emory men on Friday were sophomore Mitchell Cooper, who placed 35th in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:40.83, and senior Hayden Baker, who claimed 56th in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 25.18 seconds.

The meet, hosted by the University of Texas and featuring some of the top swimmers in the country, will conclude on Saturday with the 200-meter butterfly, 100-meter breaststroke, 100-meter backstroke, 200-meter individual medley, 1000-yard/800-meter freestyle, 1,650-yard/1500-meter freestyle and the 400-meter medley relay.  Fans can follow the action with live results at http://www.txlameetresults.com/ and a live webcast at http://www.usaswimming.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=2057&Alias=Rainbow&Lang=en.  Preliminaries are slated for a 9:00 am CT start, while finals are scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm CT.
