Swimming & Diving to Unveil Sculpture, Celebrate ‘Senior Day’ prior to Saturday’s Meet

The Emory University Swimming and Diving Team will have a few special events on the docket prior to the squad's meet against Darton College and the University of West Florida at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on Saturday, January 24th at 1:00 PM.

A ceremony to unveil a new sculpture in the facility will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday on the landing inside the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center.  The sculpture was commissioned by former Emory swimmer Charles Barron 45C 46D, and will display the winners of his eponymous award, which is presented to the male and female Emory swimmer who accumulates the most points during a season.  The piece is the work of famous Atlanta-area sculptor Carol P. Harless, with former Emory swimmer Jake Stephens serving as her model.

Emory will also have a special 'Senior Day' ceremony prior to the start of the meet, as the team honors the 13 graduating members of the team – Hayden Baker, James Davis, Kevin Flood, Cameron Herting, Griffin Neville, Eric Ruggieri, Megan Beach, Dana Holt, Nancy Larson, McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg, Lexi Tutor, Michelle York and Nina Zook.

The 'Senior Day' ceremony and the meet will be webcasted live on EmoryAthletics.com at http://emoryathletics.com/sports/mswimdive/live.  The webcast will be free to view in standard definition, with a high definition upgrade available for $6.00.  Fans can also follow live results from the meet using the MeetMobile app.

The Emory women, 5-0 in dual meets this season, remained the top-ranked Division III team in the latest poll, released on Wednesday.  The Emory men, ranked third in Division III, are 2-2 in dual meet action during the 2014-15 campaign.

Darton, a NJCAA program, has seen its men go 1-1, and its women 0-1, in dual meets this season.  West Florida, a Division II program that only features a women's squad, is currently ranked 14th in the nation, and is 7-2 in dual meets.  The Argonauts will also take on Emmanuel College on Friday, before coming to the WoodPEC on Saturday.

The Emory men are 3-0 all-time against Darton, including a 193-50 win over the Cavaliers the last time the two teams met in 2011.  The Emory women are also 3-0 against Darton (including a 173-68 win in 2011), and will be taking on West Florida for the first time.

Results and a recap of the meet will be posted to EmoryAthletics.com following the completion of competition on Saturday.
