Howell to Receive The National Collegiate & Scholastic Swimming Trophy

Emory University Head Swimming and Diving Coach Jon Howell was announced as the winner of the 2015 National College and Scholastic Swimming Trophy, one of the five major awards presented annually by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

The National Collegiate and Scholastic Swimming Trophy is the highest award of its kind in the United States. It is presented to an individual or organization for having contributed in an outstanding way to swimming as a competitive sport and as a healthful recreational activity at schools and colleges.

Howell recently led the Eagles to their sixth-consecutive NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championship, and their eighth overall, while the men's squad recorded its 16th-consecutive top-five finish, placing fourth at the 2015 NCAA Championships.  The men and women each won their 17th-consecutive University Athletic Association Championships earlier in the year.

In addition, under Howell's leadership, junior Andrew Wilson was selected as the 2015 NCAA Men's Swimmer of the Year, after winning three National Championships, each in Division III record times.  Senior McKenna Newsum-Schoenberg added an individual title in the 200-yard butterfly, as did the women's 400-yard medley relay team.

Emory swimmers have accumulated National Championships in 30 individual events and 17 relays since Howell joined the program during the 1998-99 season.  The Eagles have also received extensive recognition for their academic excellence during the time period, earning 37 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships and 33 Academic All-America honors.

The award will be presented at the CSCAA Annual Banquet on Thursday, May 7, 2015 held in conjunction with the CSCAA Convention at the Hilton Orrington in Evanston, Illinois.
