Juniors Cindy Cheng and Oliver Smith from the Emory University Swimming and Diving programs swept the University Athletic Association Swimmers of the Week following their performances at Division II Florida Southern this past weekend. This marks Cheng’s fifth career Athlete of the Week award and her third this season while this is Smith’s third of his career and the first of this season.

Cheng led the Eagles to a convincing 173-86 victory over FSC, posting two individual events wins in the 200 Free (1:52.55) and 200 Back (2:03.24) - both NCAA B Cut times. She also helped Emory to a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay as the relay team touched with a NCAA qualifying time of 1:41.74.

Smith had one individual event victory and assisted on two relay first place finishes as Emory knocked off the Moccasins, 135-127. In the final event of the meet, Smith helped the 200 Free Relay to a first place finish with a time of 1:24.15 to help the Eagles clinch their first ever win over Florida Southern in the all-time series. Smith added an individual NCAA B Cut in the 50 Free, winning the event at 20.69. He also swam the final leg in Emory's first place showing in the 200 Medley Relay as the relay time touched with a NCAA qualifying mark of 1:31.65.

Cheng and Smith will be two of the select Emory swimmers scheduled to compete at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Austin, TX this weekend. The remaining members of the Eagles are set to travel to Birmingham, Alabama to face Birmingham-Southern in a dual meet this Saturday, January 14th.
