Lucas Bumgarner Wins 1-Meter Event at NCAA Diving Regionals

Sophomore Lucas Bumgarner had another strong showing at the NCAA Regional Diving Championships, finishing first in the 1-meter event on Saturday to go with his triumph in the 3-meter dive yesterday, which officially qualified him for the NCAA Championships. The regionals were hosted by Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

Following his first-place performance in the 3-meter on Friday, Bumgarner again topped the 500 mark as he recorded a total score of 529.65 to win gold in the event. Bumgarner was the sole diver to breach 500 points, as Claremont-Mudd-Sripps' Kendall Hollimon posted a runner-up score of 467.75 and Benjamin Willett of Pomona-Pitzer recorded a 409.60 to take third in the event.

Bumgarner averaged 48.15 per his 11 dives with his best round score of 66.00 occurring during his seventh dive with his Reverse 2 ½ Somersault Tuck. The Pittsburgh, PA native's victory gives him his second consecutive regional crown in the 1-meter event after he claimed the title in last year's competition, as well.

Next up for Bumgarner and the Eagles is the four-day NCAA DIII National Championships, which will take place in Greensboro, North Carolina from Wednesday, Mar. 18th to Saturday, Mar. 21st.
