Swimming & Diving Sweeps Tri-Match with Delta St. and West Florida on Senior Day

The Emory University swimming and diving teams recorded 17 event wins Saturday morning as the Eagles celebrated Senior Day with a tri-meet sweep against West Florida and Delta State at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center inside the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta. Prior to the start of the meet, Emory honored its senior swimmers with an on-deck ceremony.

Emory was triumphant in 11 of the 16 events as the Eagles defeated Delta State in the men’s portion of the meet, 190-97. For the women, Emory collected six swimming event wins as the Eagles toppled DSU 176-123 and West Florida 167-127.

Sophomore Lucas Bumgarner and freshman Nicholas Goudie earned four the team’s 11 wins on the men’s side to pace the Eagles. Bumgarner swept the diving events, posting scores of 354.94 in the 3-meter and 309.55 in the 1-meter. Over in the sprint freestyles, Goudie came away with wins in both events, touching first in the 50 Freestyle at 21.10 and in the 100 Free at 46.49.

Goudie added relay wins to his meet ledger as he swam anchor in Emory’s winning team in both the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relays. Goudie along with junior Chris Nicholson and sophomores Jason Hamilton and Hwa Min Sim took first in the 200 MR with a time of 1:32.34 and in the 200 FR, Goudie, Nicholson, senior Sage Ono and sophomore Colin LaFave turned in a winning mark of 1:24.13.

The Eagles added solo wins from freshman Alex Webster in the 1000 Freestyle (9:51.93), sophomore Pat Pema in the 200 Freestyle (1:42.37), freshman Brian Hollis in the 200 Butterfly (1:53.33), freshman Steven Kuhn in the 500 Freestyle (4:45.42) and junior Sven Mesihovic in the 400 IM (4:04.07).

Sophomore Clio Hancock paced the Eagles for the women, securing a pair of individual wins on the morning. Hancock led off with Emory’s first win, taking the 1000 Freestyle with a mark of 10:26.26 before adding a win in the 400 IM, touching at 4:29.05.

In addition to Hancock’s two wins, the Eagles saw individual wins registered from sophomore Allie Dixon in the 200 Fly (2:05.74), junior Lucy Daro in the 100 Freestyle (53.05) and freshman Savannah Sowards in the 200 Backstroke (2:04.77).

The Emory women closed out the meet with a victory in the 200 Free Relay as Daro, senior Caroline Olson and sophomores Zoe Walker and Taylor Leone combined to clock in a winning time of 1:37.51.

The Eagles will return to the pool with their final dual meet of the season on Saturday, February 1st as Emory takes on the University of Georgia. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM in Athens.
