Andrew Wilson Earns Gold Medal in Men's 4x100m Medley Relay at Tokyo Olympics

Andrew Wilson. Olympic Gold Medalist.

Former Emory University swimmer Andrew Wilson achieved what many dream of but very few accomplish, and that's winning a Gold medal at the Olympic Games.

The United States captured a first-place team finish in the men's 4x100m medley relay Sunday in Japan thanks to a finals lineup featuring Ryan Murphy, Michael Andrew, Caleb Dressel and Zach Apple that combined to post a new World record time of 3:26.78, taking down the previous 12-year-old record. Great Britain won Silver at 3:27.51 with Italy taking Bronze at 3:29.17.

By virtue of swimming in the preliminaries on Saturday, Wilson will receive a Gold medal for his efforts, capping off an outstanding Olympic week for the former Division III swimmer and Emory Eagle.

In addition to winning Gold in Tokyo, Wilson represented the United States in three other events: finishing tied for sixth in the 100m Breaststroke, 17th in the 200m Breaststroke as well as helped Team USA advance to the medal final in the first-ever competed 4x100m mixed medley relay where the team placed fifth.

A fitting end to a remarkable journey. https://news.emory.edu/features/2021/07/olympics-andrew-wilson/index.html
