Dillon Pottish Named UAA Most Valuable Player -- Six Eagles Earn All-UAA First Team Tennis Honors

All six singles players and one doubles team from the Emory men's tennis program
were selected to the All-University Athletic Association First Team as chosen by the league's coaches.  The No. 2-ranked Eagles of Head Coach John Browning captured first-place at the UAA Championships, Apr. 26-28, in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Senior Dillon Pottish highlighted the team's honorees as he was named the UAA's Most Valuable Player for the third straight year after helping Emory to it 22nd crown in the past 23 campaigns.   Pottish landed first-team acclaim at No. 1 singles after posting a 3-0 record, and joined forces with freshman Brian Kowalski to earn first-team accolades at No. 3 doubles.  Pottish opened singles action with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rochester's Boris Borovcanin in his initial test before topping Case Western's will Drougas, 6-2, 6-3, in helping the Eagles to an 8-1 win in the semifinals.  Pottish then came away with an impressive 6-2, 6-4, verdict over Washington University's Adam Putterman in the finals where Emory prevailed by an 8-1 margin.  In doubles, Pottish and Kowalski breezed through their opening contest against Rochester before earning an 8-6 decision over the CWRU tandem of Eric Klawitter and Rohan Patel.  In the finals, the Emory duo emerged with an 8-2 triumph over the Bears' Jeffrey Hirsh and Gary Parizher.   Pottish becomes the first Emory men's player to be chosen as the conference's MVP three times.   So far this year, he has compiled an overall singles slate of 26-2.

Senior Chris Goodwin, earned his fourth straight first-team berth at No. 2 singles after manufacturing a 3-0 mark including a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Parizher in the championship match.  Goodwin also defeated Rochester's Brian Rice, 6-1, 6-1, and Case Western's Sean Carr, 6-4, 6-2. During the UAA Championships,  Goodwin became the school's all-time leader in singles victories and will enter the upcoming NCAA Tournament with a 100-20 record.
