Emory's Chris Goodwin Earns Berth On Capital One Academic All-District Team

Emory University men's tennis player Chris Goodwin has been recognized for his accomplishments both in the classroom and on the court by earning a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District Team.  Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Goodwin, who wrapped up his collegiate career this past week at the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships, posted a 3.30 grade-point average and obtained his undergraduate degree as a History major.  The Rockville, Maryland, native was ranked as the No. 2 singles player in the Division III ranks and helped the program earn its third national title, compiling an overall mark of 17-5.  In doubles action, he finished with an 18-6 ledger, 13-6 at the No. 1 position.  The 2011, NCAA D-III Singles champion, Goodwin capped off his career as the school's all-time leader in victories in both singles (100-24) and doubles (95-29) play.

Tennis is one of 13 sports included in the At-Large category.  The others include the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, water polo, and wrestling. Emory's representatives are District 5 selections from Division III institutions comprised from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.  A candidate must be a starter or key member of the team and possess a GPA of 3.30 or higher.

Goodwin now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
