Emory Men's Tennis Dominates All-UAA Team -- Mosetick Named MVP

Emory men's tennis dominated the 2016 All-University Athletic Association Team following its first-place performance at the league championships last weekend.  The Eagles landed five first-team berths in singles and one in doubles.

Highlighting the Emory representatives was senior Rafe Mosetick (Hinsdale IL), who in addition to his first-team nod at No. 1 singles, was selected as conference MVP.  Mosetick has compiled an overall record of 24-6 this season, 16-5 during the spring portion of the schedule with all of those decisions coming at the No. 1 post.  The No. 2-ranked singles performer in the D-III ranks, Mosetick turned in a 3-0 slate at the UAA Championships including a 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 decision over Carnegie Mellon's Abhishek Alla, who stands as the No. 4-ranked player in the Atlantic South Region and No. 8 nationally.  Mosetick's other triumphs came against Sidd Thangirala of New York University and John Carswell of Washington University. It marks the second straight season and third time in his career that he had played his way into first-team honors, capturing the award in 2013 at No. 4 singles and in 2015 at No. 3.  His MVP honor makes him the seventh different Emory player to earn that distinction and first since 2012 (Dillon Pottish).

Freshman Jonathan Jemison (Marietta, GA), the No. 16-ranked singles player nationally (No. 3 in Atlantic South Region), garnered first-team accolades at No. 2 after rolling to three straight-set victories, boosting his season mark to 25-4 (16-2 spring), with his win total a team high. Jemison opened UAAs with an outcome over NYU's Benedict Teoh before topping CMU's Daniel Levine (6-1, 6-3) and Wash U's Johnny Wu (6-1, 7-5).  Jemison, who currently owns a nine-match win streak, was tabbed as the league's Rookie of the Year, Emory's first honoree in that category since 2011 (Simon Lavoie-Perusse).

Junior Aman Manji (Sammamish, WA) captured first-team status at No. 3 singles after recording a 3-0 effort. Manji, 19-5 on the season (16-3 spring), came away with a trio of straight-set wins at the conference championships, including a 7-5, 6-3, verdict of Wash U's Tyler Kratky that enabled the Eagles to clinch the title.  It is the second straight year that Manji has been a first-team pick, having earned that distinction at six singles in 2015.

Freshman Adrien Bouchet (Oakton, VA) and sophomore Andrew Harrington (Millersville, MD) were first-team honorees at Nos. 4 and 6 singles, respectively.  Both posted 3-0 marks at UAAs with Bouchet seeing his overall record raised to 21-7 and Harrington to 19-8.

In addition to the singles representation, Mosetick and Jemison registered first-team kudos at No. 2 doubles.  The tandem won all three of their UAA outings, upping their win streak to seven matches and overall record to 17-3.

Capping off the award winners were head coach John Browning, along with assistants Chris Goodwin and Ian Wagner, being named as the league's Coaching Staff of the Year.  It is the ninth time during Browning's 17 years at Emory that he has been selected for the award.

Emory, 20-3 on the campaign and ranked No. 1 nationally, will hear on May 9 as to what awaits it in the postseason when the selections to the NCAA Championships are announced.
