Emory Men's Tennis Defeats Washington & Lee In NCAA Second-Round Match

The No. 1-ranked Emory men's tennis team opened play in the NCAA D-III Championships on a successful note on Saturday, posting a second-round win over Washington and Lee.  The Eagles won their eighth straight match and boosted their overall record to 21-3 following a 5-0 decision over the Generals who closed out their year at 16-9.  Emory is serving as the host site for this weekend's opening rounds.

Emory took control of the match following a sweep of doubles. The No. 3 sophomore tandem of David Omsky and Andrew Harrington notched the first point of the morning with an 8-4 triumph over Justin Gillette and Perry Clements.  Shortly after, senior Rafe Mosetick and freshman Jonathan Jemison recorded their eighth straight victory, while upping their season record to 18-3, with an 8-5 outcome at No. 2 over Joe Siami and Thomas Johnson.  At first doubles, sophomore Scott Rubinstein and sophomore James Spaulding gave Emory a 3-0 edge with an 8-3 verdict against Will Bannister and Jordan Krasner.

Mosetick put Emory one point from clinching the match with his 6-0, 6-3, win over Krasner at No. 1 his seventh consecutive victory and 25th in 31 decisions on the year.  Harrington closed out the contest with a 6-0, 6-0, triumph over Gillette at No. 6.

The win sends Emory into Sunday's third round on Sunday (May 15) where it will play either Trinity University (TX) or Sewanee.  The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start with the winner advancing to the national quarterfinals in Kalamazoo, Michigan (May 23).
